Current guideline for evaluating diastolic function requires multiple parameters to identify patients with elevated left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP). However, the intermediate result still exists and may cause LVEDP undetermined. Previous studies have shown intraventricular pressure difference (IVPDs) are required for normal LV filling, but the relationship between IVPDs and LVEDP is unknown.

Background: Gasdermin D (GSDMD) mediated pyroptosis plays a significant role in the pathophysiology of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. However, the precise mechanisms regulating pyroptosis remain unclear. In the study, we aimed to investigate the underlying mechanism of pyroptosis in myocardial I/R injury.

Objective: To develop prognostic nomograms for overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) probabilities in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients with brain metastasis (BM).

Methods: SCLC patients with BM from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database (2010-2015) were randomly allocated to training (n=1771) and validation (n=757) cohorts. Independent prognostic factors for OS and CSS were determined using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses in the training cohort, and prognostic nomograms for OS and CSS were constructed based on these factors.

Background: Cardiomyocyte apoptosis plays a vital role in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (MI/R) injury; however, the role of beclin1 (BECN1) remains unclear. This study aimed at revealing the function of BECN1 during cardiomyocyte apoptosis after MI/R injury.

Methods: In vivo, TTC and Evan's blue double staining was applied to verify the gross morphological alteration in both wild type (WT) mice and BECN1 transgene mice (BECN1-TG), and TUNEL staining and western blot were adopted to evaluate the cardiomyocyte apoptosis.

BACKGROUND Pre-excitation cardiomyopathy is a specific type of cardiac disease related to asymptomatic pre-excitation. It is rarely reported and is prone to misdiagnosis; therefore, the actual incidence of pre-excitation cardiomyopathy may be underestimated. The purpose of this case report is to present a case of pre-excitation cardiomyopathy caused by an accessory pathway.

Cardiac paragangliomas (PGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors, and data regarding the features of nonfunctioning PGLs are limited. These tumors are extensively vascularized and have high risk of hemorrhage for surgery and even biopsy. Differential diagnosis including biochemical analysis of these PGLs is important for further management.

Objectives: The inflammatory cascade and cell death post-myocardial ischemia reperfusion (MI/R) are very complex. Despite the understanding that macrophage inflammation has a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of MI/R, the contribution of macrophage inflammatory signals in tailoring the function of vascular endothelium remains unknown.

Materials And Methods: In the present study, we analyzed the effects of NEDD4 on the NLRP3 inflammasome activation-mediated pyroptosis in vitro after an acute pro-inflammatory stimulus and in vivo in a MI/R mouse model.

Background: Minor hallucination (MH) is the most common psychotic symptom in Parkinson's disease (PD); it can develop into well-structured visual hallucination (VH), suggesting that MH may be a staccato form of well-structured VH. However, it remains unclear whether the pathogenesis is the same. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the altered gray matter volume (GMV) and functional connectivity (FC) of MH in PD to further understand the complex mechanisms.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the prevalence of BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations in Chinese populations with breast cancer. Factors associated with BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations are also evaluated.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, and patients with breast cancer were included.

Metallic nanowires (NWs) are essential building blocks for flexible electronics, and experience different deformation modes due to external mechanical loading. Using atomistic simulations, this work investigated the deformation behavior of copper nanowire under coupled tension-torsion loading. A transition in both yielding pattern and dislocation pattern were observed with varying torsion/tension strain ratios.

The present study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of chronic aortic regurgitation (CAR) quantification using left and right ventricular stroke volumes (LVSV and RVSV, respectively) obtained from two new automated three-dimensional transthoracic echocardiographic software-Dynamic HeartModel (DHM) and 3D Auto RV. Patients (n=116) with more than mild isolated CAR were included and divided into two groups: central (n=53) and eccentric CAR (n=63) groups. LVSV and RVSV were automatically measured by DHM and 3D Auto RV.

Background: Myocardial reperfusion injury is often accompanied by cell death and inflammatory reactions. Recently, pyroptosis is gradually recognized as pivotal role in cardiovascular disease. However, little is known about the regulatory role of beclin1 in the control of caspase-4 activation and pyroptosis.

The association between serum total cholesterol (TC) level and incident atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in patients with follicular thyroid cancer postthyroidectomy is unknown. This was a retrospective study and patients (n = 384) were divided into low and high TC groups according to the median TC level. Incidence of composite ASCVD (myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, and cardiovascular death) was compared between these 2 groups and factors contributing to the association of TC and ASCVD were evaluated.

Objective: To investigate the prognostic value of metabolic parameters of F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

Methods: The clinical data of 58 patients with DLBCL who were examined by F-FDG PET/CT before treatment and confirmed by pathology were analyzed retrospectively. The relationships between maximum standardized uptake value (SUV), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), total lesion glycolysis (TLG) and clinical factors were analyzed.

Innate immune response contributes significantly to ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury. Targeting innate immunity seems to be a promising method for protecting the microvascular injury in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients following myocardial I/R injury (MI/R). NLRP3 inflammasome is a central part of the innate immune system involved in the pathophysiological process of MI/R.

Inflammation is a pivotal feature of myocardial reperfusion-induced microvascular injury and dysfunction. However, the molecular mechanisms by which myocardial reperfusion triggered inflammation remain incurable. The NLRP3 inflammasome is a key intracellular sensor that detection of cellular stress to activation of caspase-1, and consequent IL-1β maturation and pyroptotic cell death.

Keloids are a common dermal pathological disorder characterized by the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix components; however, the exact pathogenesis of the disease is still not clear. Studies increasingly suggest that microRNAs (miRNAs) can play a key role in the process of keloid scarring. In this study, the valuable miRNAs and target genes were screened and the interaction network was constructed.

Obtaining focused right ventricular (RV) apical view remains challenging using conventional two-dimensional (2D) echocardiography. This study main objective was to determine whether measurements from RV focused views derived from three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography (3D-RV-focused) are closely related to measurements from magnetic resonance (CMR). A first cohort of 47 patients underwent 3D echocardiography and CMR imaging within 2 h of each other.
