Spinal root avulsion typically leads to massive motoneuron death and severe functional deficits of the target muscles. Multiple pathological factors such as severe neuron loss, induction of inhibitory molecules, and insufficient regeneration are responsible for the poor functional recovery. Leucine-rich repeat and immunoglobulin-like domain-containing Nogo receptor-interacting protein 1 (LINGO-1), a central nervous system (CNS)-specific transmembrane protein that is selectively expressed on neurons and oligodendrocytes, serves as a potent negative mediator of axonal regeneration and myelination in CNS injuries and diseases.

Objective: To investigate the changesof DNA methylation in histone deacetylases 4 gene (HDAC4) and its effectduring the trans-differentiation process of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) into sweat gland like cells (SGLCs).
Methods: Selected cell lines of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) were cultured and expended , the third generation ofhMSCs and heat-shocked sweat gland cells were picked up, and were co-culturedwith adding inducible factor in the transwell chamber. The sweat gland like cells (SGLCs)in experiment group and the hMSCs in control group were collected, the changes of DNA methylation degree of CpG dinucleotide sitesin histone deacetylases 4 gene (HDAC4) promotor were detected by methylation specific PCR (MSP)andMaldi-TOF Mass Array.
Torrefaction is a promising pretreatment technology for biomass thermochemical conversion. In this study, pinewood (PW) and PW250 (torrefied at 250 °C) were prepared for pyrolysis. Torrefaction was carried out in a fixed bed reactor and the pyrolysis was studied by thermogravimetric analyzer using six different heating rates.

However, no satisfactory treatment is currently available. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1α is a critical molecule targeting several genes associated with ischemia-hypoxia damage and angiogenesis.

The challenges associated with both the chemoselectivity between the carbon and nitrogen nucleophile and the enantioselective control during the formation of an all-carbon quaternary stereogenic center were well addressed by a Pd catalytic system derived from the Feringa ligand. A series of enantioenriched multiply substituted fused indolenines were provided in good yields (71-86 %) with excellent enantioselectivity (91-96 % ee) and chemoselectivity (3/4>19:1 in most cases).

Methods: Flow cytometry were used to assess the in vitro effect of compound kushen injection (CKI). Quantitative proteomics were used to analyse the mechanism.
Obesity is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, but the direct signals to initiate or exaggerate cardiomyopathy remain largely unknown. Present study aims to explore the pathophysiological role of autotaxin/lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) in the process of cardiomyopathy during obesity. Through utilizing mouse model and clinical samples, present study investigates the therapeutic benefits of autotaxin inhibitor and clinical correlation to obesity-related cardiomyopathy.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) recently attracted much attraction in the study of MI/R injury. However, the functional questions of specific lncRNAs in HFD-induced MI/R injury have not been well elucidated.

These mutations cause defects in dimer/trimer assembly, trafficking, and secretion, as well as cause mutant protein aggregation. We investigated the effects and mechanisms of chemical chaperones on the cellular and biochemical properties of mutant SP-A2.

Recent evidence indicates that environment-mediated drug resistance arises from a reciprocal influence between tumor cells and the surrounding stroma. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells on the metabolism of bone marrow stroma, to determine the role of this metabolic change in the stroma in vorinostat resistance of CLL cells, and thus to assess a novel strategy to target stroma and achieve the maximum therapeutic effect of vorinostat.

Methods: Nude mice injected with U87MG tumor cells were longitudinally monitored for the development of orthotopic GBMs up to 15 days and observed for changes in sO upon administration of combretastatin A4 phosphate (CA4P, 30 mg/kg), an FDA approved VDA for treating solid tumors. We employed a newly-developed non-negative constrained approach for combined MSOT image reconstruction and unmixing in order to quantitatively map sO in whole mouse brains.
Instructor-generated videos have become a popular way to engage students with material before a class, yet this is a relatively unexplored area of research. There is support for the use of videos in which instructors tutor students, but few studies have been conducted within the context of a classroom. In this study, conducted in a large-enrollment college physiology course, we used a randomized crossover design to compare the impact of two types of instructor-generated videos that students watched as part of their preclass assignments.

This study aims to investigate whether SIRT1 is involved in the anxiolytic effect of apelin-13 in CNH-treated mice, and to illustrate the potential underlying mechanism. We showed that apelin-13 treatment reversed a decrease in SIRT1 and an increase in acetylated p65 (lysine 310) proteins' expression in hippocampus of CNH-treated mice, indicating that apelin-13 inhibited NF-κB signaling pathway by activating SIRT1.

TEX11 deficiency causes meiotic arrest and male infertility, and many TEX11 mutations have been found in azoospermic and infertile men.
Case Presentation: This study reported one novel TEX11 mutation (2653G → T, in exon 29, GenBank accession number, NM_031276) in two brothers with azoospermia.
Osteosarcoma (OS), a common worldwide primary aggressive bone malignancy, arises from primitive transformed cells of mesenchymal origin and usually attacks adolescents and young adults. Methotrexate (MTX) is the anti-folate drug used as a pivotal chemotherapeutic agent in the treatment of OS. However, patients with OS often develop drug resistance, leading to poor treatment outcomes.

However, traditional PAA brushes are synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. Hence, it is generally difficult to control and characterize the molecular weight of the PAA brushes, which may depress the reproducibility and bring more uncertain results.
