[Treatment of trigeminal neuralgia with vincristine iontophoresis. A clinical pilot study.].

Treatment of chronic pain disease is a scientific and clinical challenge encountered in all branches of medicine. Essential trigeminal neuralgia and chronic pain situations are noted for their exceptionally marked severity and also for their psychic and social consequences. It is not rare for a primarily somatic pain syndrome to develop into a painful disease in its own right, which is highly refractory to treatment.

[Hemihypertrophia mandibulae--CT scans and histochemical findings].

In a clinical statistical evaluation of patients seen in our hospital between 1967 and 1987 a total of 25 cases of facial asymmetry are assessed. The importance of CT scans for diagnosis and treatment planning is emphasized. The histochemical analysis of native cryostat hard bone tissue sections proves the existence of atypical bone remodelling processes in the inner bone surface late in the 3rd decade of life.

[Kinship studies in Gorlin-Goltz syndrome (basal cell nevus syndrome)].

By means of an investigation on 7 patients from 3 families views are expressed on the problems of the basal cell-naevus-syndrome. The typical clinical signs appear preferentially and as first-symptoms in the jaw-bone as solitary and later developing multiple cysts. Because these first symptoms of the syndrome cause secondary, dentitio tarda (belated dentition) and displacement of the teeth, the dentist or the maxillo-facial-surgeon has a special responsibility for early diagnosis of this disease.

[Congenital melanotic tumors].

Congenital melanotic tumors are among the very rare tumors of early childhood. Their histogenesis and biological significance are still controversial today. The ideas of an odontogenic origin and of a neuroectodermal pathogenesis of these tumors range among the most frequently advocated hypotheses.

[Selective IgA defect. Clinical importance for stomatology].

The clinical picture of 6 women suffering from selective IgA immunodeficiency were studied in a 2-13 years lasting period of immunological outdoor patients care. Despite of respiratory infections, otitis media, sinusitis, aphtosis and exogenous allergy the first detection of IgA deficiency was delayed til adulthood (mean age 42 years). A case of a 22 years old women with complicated fistula after molar tooth extraction showed the problems of dentistry in such diagnosis.

[Problems of bite injuries in the maxillo-facial region].

Bite injuries by animals in the maxillo-facial-region require special managements of the treating physician or dentist. In the foreground stands the prophylaxis of the rabies. According to the lawful definitions the patient has to be transferred as quick as possible to the next department for rabies and inoculation.

[Evaluation of a mandibular copper wire osteosynthesis after 60 years of function].

The case of a patient is described in whom an osteosynthesis of the mandible was performed using copper wire about 60 years ago. The findings as well as the results obtained by SEM and ESMA are presented and discussed.

[Stimulated osteogenesis in bone cysts].

This method deduces from classical therapeuticál principle of bone jaw cysts from Partsch (1892, 1910) and Schulte (1959, 1960, 1964) and has regard the modern results of biomaterial research. It is used mixing of anorganic and organic materials, which proportion is in accordance to normal bone tissue. In 39 till now operated cases of different bone defects we attained good clinical events.

[An analysis of the incidence of surgical-stomatologic disease pictures and required treatment needs].

In a good bordered drainage area in the sense of the reachdentist-system a study of morbidity was made. It could be fixed that in nearly a third of all patients diseases a relation of 862 patients to 1351 diagnoses was found. As the principle of division the International Classification of Diseases was used and with 97,13% the Class IX was absolutely dominating.

[Surgical sutures--survey and recommendations for application to stomatology].

The stomatologue is supposed to apply with his every day's practice surgical suture material in case of need according to indication. Placing numerous, novel materials at disposal, the knowledge of biological and physical parameters of materials that can be applied sometimes cannot suffice. The survey is aimed at orientation on the selection and recommendation of the suited suture materials.

[Solitary plasmacytomas in the head area. Diagnostic and therapeutic considerations].

Based on two case reports the inherent problems of diagnosis and treatment of this rare tumor are discussed. The importance of a complex immunohistologic and immunochemical analysis of the monoclonal immunoglobulin produced by the tumor is emphasized. Determining the serum level of the immunoglobulin is decisive for establishing the necessary treatment strategy.

[The use of tantalum wire as a suture material].

The qualification of tantalum wire as suture material was tested by means of physical and histological investigations. Starting-point were the physiochemical and biological attributes and its hitherto existing employment in the medicine. Indication and recommendations for handling the material were found out.

[Vascular supply of the free fasciocutaneous forearm flap--an anatomical study].

The vascular supply of the forearm skin--especially of the ventral antebrachial region--was investigated by means of selective angiographies and intravascular dye injections in 43 upper extremities of corpses. Besides the definition of the interesting supply regions assertions were made about the kind and the character of the angioarchitecture as well as recommendations for the flap planning and other clinical references.

[Graduate teaching aspects to be considered in the planning of undergraduate dental courses].

The general part of the present paper deals with questions concerning the demanding conceptual design of teaching from the aspect of creative studying. The students' qualification for responsible scientific work and creative studying is considered to be an essential question of the conceptual design of the demanding process of learning and acquiring the scientific bases. Thus, it will be possible to improve effectively the attitude towards studying and the engagement in creative achievements (in a narrow sense or in explicit forms of organization).

[Vertification of the age dependence of salivary gland function by means of 99 Tc sialadenoscintigraphy].

The authors describe the salivary gland function diagnostics by means of 99mTc-pertechnetate under the conditions of computer scintigraphy. Parameters suited for numerical evaluation were selected. The age-dependence of the parotid gland function was studied in 49 healthy subjects of different age-groups.
