OMIP-109: 45-color full spectrum flow cytometry panel for deep immunophenotyping of the major lineages present in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells with emphasis on the T cell memory compartment.

The need for more in-depth exploration of the human immune system has moved the flow cytometry field forward with advances in instrumentation, reagent development and availability, and user-friendly implementation of data analysis methods. We developed a high-quality human 45-color panel, for comprehensive characterization of major cell lineages present in circulation including T cells, γδ T cells, NKT-like cells, B cells, NK cells, monocytes, basophils, dendritic cells, and ILCs. Assay optimization steps are described in detail to ensure that each marker in the panel was optimally resolved.

Effects of Incorporated Emulsifiers Into Noodles on V-amylose Formation, Digestibility, and Structural Characteristics.

There is growing interest in developing low glycemic alternatives to starchy foods. In this study, two emulsifiers, namely sodium stearoyl lactylate and egg yolk, were incorporated into the formulation of noodles (EYN and SSLN), and their effects on V-amylose formation, digestibility and structural characteristics of the noodles were investigated. The emulsifiers facilitated V-amylose formation in the noodles, indicated by the complexing indices.

Surface Water as an Initial Proton Source for the Electrochemical CO Reduction Reaction on Copper Surfaces.

We have employed in situ electrochemical shell-isolated nanoparticle-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SHINERS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations to study the CO reduction reaction (CORR) on Cu single-crystal surfaces under various conditions. Coadsorbed and structure-/potential-dependent surface species, including *CO, Cu-O , and Cu-OH , were identified using electrochemical spectroscopy and isotope labeling. The relative abundance of *OH follows a "volcano" trend with applied potentials in aqueous solutions, which is yet absent in absolute alcoholic solutions.

In situ spectroelectrochemical probing of CO redox landscape on copper single-crystal surfaces.

Electrochemical reduction of CO to value-added chemicals and fuels is a promising strategy to sustain pressing renewable energy demands and to address climate change issues. Direct observation of reaction intermediates during the CO reduction reaction will contribute to mechanistic understandings and thus promote the design of catalysts with the desired activity, selectivity, and stability. Herein, we combined in situ electrochemical shell-isolated nanoparticle-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and ab initio molecular dynamics calculations to investigate the CORR process on Cu single-crystal surfaces in various electrolytes.

A practical approach to chronic kidney disease in primary care.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD), a common clinical problem in primary care, can be defined as any abnormality of the kidney structure and/or function that has been present for at least 3 months. Over the past 20 years, the incidence and prevalence of CKD have been increasing in Malaysia in line with the rising number of non-communicable diseases. At present, CKD has no cure.

Hepatic Sarcoidosis: Diagnostic approach and management.

Sarcoidosis is a multi-systemic, non-caseating granulomatous disorder with an idiopathic aetiology. We report a 58-year-old Malay woman, with underlying type II diabetes mellitus, hypertension and history of stage II pulmonary sarcoidosis presenting with incidental finding of multiple hypodense liver lesions. Her recent contrasted enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis demonstrated multiple intra-abdominal lymphadenopathies with evidence of liver and splenic infiltrations.

Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a congenital heart disease often encountered in the adult population, as it is frequently asymptomatic in childhood. In untreated patients with ASD, some may go on to develop complications such as atrial arrythmias, pulmonary hypertension and Eisenmenger syndrome. Pulmonary hypertension is seen in 6 - 35% of this group of untreated patients in adulthood as a result of left-to-right shunting.

Introduction: Excessive ultraviolet light (UV) can cause premature skin aging and potentially skin cancer. Currently there is a lack of awareness among health care professionals and the public on sun protection. The objectives of this study were to determine knowledge on sunscreen and skin cancer among health care professionals, to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, practice and perception of doctors and pharmacists toward the usage of sunscreen as protection against UV radiation.

Selectivity Map for the Late Stages of CO and CO Reduction to C Species on Copper Electrodes.

The electrochemical CO and CO reduction reactions (CORR and CO RR) using copper catalysts and renewable electricity hold promise as a carbon-neutral route to produce commodity chemicals and fuels. However, the exact mechanisms and structure sensitivity of Cu electrodes toward C products are still under debate. Herein, we investigate ethylene oxide reduction (EOR) as a proxy to the late stages of CORR to ethylene, and the results are compared to those of acetaldehyde reduction to ethanol.

A Case of Severe Falciparum Malaria in a Returned Traveler.

Primary care providers should be alert to travel-related infections. Around 10-40% of returning travelers from all destinations and 15-70% of travelers from tropical settings experience ill health, either overseas or upon returning home. A systematic approach concentrating on possible infections should be undertaken based on the patient's travel location, immunization history, presence of malaria chemoprophylaxis at the destination, other potential exposures, incubation period, and clinical presentation.

Stroke is a debilitating disease as it carries significant morbidity especially when it affects the younger population. There are various etiologies of young stroke, namely arterial dissection, cardioembolism, thrombophilia, inherited genetic disorder and vasculitis. Young patient with stroke should undergo complete evaluation to identify the underlying etiology in order to prevent recurrence of stroke.
