Fetal echocardiograms (F-echo) are recommended in all pregnancies when the fetus has Down syndrome (DS) even if there was a prior obstetric scan (OB-scan) that was normal. The utility of a screening F-echo in this high-risk population when an OB-scan is normal is unknown. Goal of this study was to evaluate if any diagnosis of a critical congenital heart disease (CHD) was missed in a fetus with DS who had a normal OB-scan.

Background: Vending machines for harm reduction (VMHR) are an innovative approach to deliver life-saving materials, information, and treatment for hard-to-reach populations, particularly for persons who inject drugs. The current study explores stakeholders' perspectives on the feasibility and acceptability of VMHR in Philadelphia.

Methods: From October 2021 to February 2022, we conducted 31 semi-structured interviews with potential end users, staff, and leadership at a local federally qualified health center, and community members.

Attention bias to affective stimuli, particularly threatening stimuli, has been well documented, with attention bias to affective faces often reported in populations with social anxiety (SA). However, inconsistencies exist in the literature regarding the direction of the bias, with some studies reporting a bias to attend toward social threat, and others reporting a bias to avoid social threat. This variability in the attention bias literature could be related to fluctuations in how attentional resources are allocated toward social stimuli over time.

Affective faces are important stimuli with relevance to healthy and abnormal social and affective information processing. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of brief presentations of affective faces on attention and emotional state across the time course of stimulus processing, as indexed by startle eyeblink response modulation. Healthy adults were presented with happy, neutral, and disgusted male and female faces that were backward masked by neutral faces.

A 69-year-old Caucasian man presented with fever, chills/rigors and night sweats since 6 days. Blood cultures (4/4) initially reported Gram negative lactose-fermenting rods. Physical examination was fairly benign which included a normal abdominal examination.

Classification of body movements based on posturographic data.

The human body, standing on two feet, produces a continuous sway pattern. Intended movements, sensory cues, emotional states, and illnesses can all lead to subtle changes in sway appearing as alterations in ground reaction forces and the body's center of pressure (COP). The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that carefully selected COP parameters and classification methods can differentiate among specific body movements while standing, providing new prospects in camera-free motion identification.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of both facial expression and face gender on startle eyeblink response patterns at varying lead intervals (300, 800, and 3500ms) indicative of attentional and emotional processes. We aimed to determine whether responses to affective faces map onto the Defense Cascade Model (Lang et al., 1997) to better understand the stages of processing during affective face viewing.

Slowed processing speed is the primary cognitive deficit in multiple sclerosis (MS). However, no studies have examined how patients perceive this deficit. The purpose of this paper is to examine perceived processing speed difficulties in clinical and community samples of MS patients.

Restoration of motor function following stroke involves reorganization of motor output through intact pathways, with compensatory brain activity likely variable by task. One class of motor tasks, those involved in self-care, is particularly important in stroke rehabilitation. Identifying the brain areas that are engaged in self-care and how they reorganize after stroke may enable development of more effective rehabilitation strategies.

A multiplex real-time PCR assay for the detection and differentiation of Francisella tularensis subspecies.

Francisella tularensis is the aetiological agent of tularaemia, a zoonotic disease with worldwide prevalence. F. tularensis is a highly pathogenic organism and has been designated a category A biothreat agent by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Background: Because latanoprost and the original formulation of travoprost that included benzalkonium chloride (BAK) have been shown to be similar with regard to tolerability, we compared initial topical intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering medication change rates in patients newly treated with latanoprost or travoprost-Z monotherapy.

Methods: At 14 clinical practice sites, medical records were abstracted for patients with a diagnosis of open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension and who were ≥40 years of age, had a baseline and at least one follow-up visit, and had no prior history of ocular prostaglandin use. Data regarding demographics, ocular/systemic medical histories, clinical variables, therapy initiations and reasons for changes, adverse events, and resource utilization were recorded from randomly chosen eligible charts.

This study focuses on the solution antimicrobial effectiveness of a novel class of copolyoxetanes with quaternary ammonium and PEG-like side chains. A precursor P[(BBOx-m)(ME2Ox)] copolyoxetane was prepared by cationic ring-opening copolymerization of 3-((4-bromobutoxy)methyl)-3-methyloxetane (BBOx) and 3-((2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy)methyl)-3-methyloxetane (ME2Ox) to give random copolymers with 14-100 (m) mol % BBOx. Reaction of P[(BBOx-m)(ME2Ox)] with dodecyl dimethylamine gave the corresponding quaternary P[(C12-m)(ME2Ox)] polycation salts, designated C12-m, as viscous liquids in 100% yield.

An irrelevant light enhances auditory detection in humans: a psychophysical analysis of multisensory integration in stimulus detection.

Physiological and behavioral studies in animal models have revealed that information from the different senses can be used synergistically to enhance the detection of objects and events. Although a great deal of evidence exists which demonstrates the synergistic use of multisensory cues in human behavior and perception, there is conflicting evidence about whether such interactions can be used to aid in stimulus detection. To examine this issue, we had volunteers indicate the presence or absence of a brief, low-intensity sound that was either presented alone or paired with a simultaneous light in a one-interval signal detection task.

A survey of trypanosomosis in Zambian goats using haematocrit centrifuge technique and polymerase chain reaction.

The incidence of trypanosomosis was determined using the haematocrit centrifuge technique (HCT) as well as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) on 120 goat blood spots on filter paper. Both techniques failed to detect a positive reaction, implying that factors such as age, healthy appearance and small sample size notwithstanding, trypanosomosis does not seem to pose a serious threat to goat health in the districts from where the animals originated.
