Nanocarriers (NCs) have emerged as a revolutionary approach in targeted drug delivery, promising to enhance drug efficacy and reduce toxicity through precise targeting and controlled release mechanisms. Despite their potential, the clinical adoption of NCs is hindered by challenges in their physicochemical characterization, essential for ensuring drug safety, efficacy, and quality control. Traditional characterization methods, such as dynamic light scattering and nanoparticle tracking analysis, offer limited insights, primarily focusing on particle size and concentration, while techniques like high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry are hampered by extensive sample preparation, high costs, and potential sample degradation.

Mental Health Awareness: Stigma and Help-Seeking Among Portuguese College Students.

Background/objectives: Help-seeking-that is, the attempt to attain external help for mental health, be it from formal or informal sources-can be described as an adaptive coping process. Mental illness stigma is the most frequently identified barrier that prevents students from seeking psychological help. This study analyzed college students' beliefs about mental illness and attitudes toward formal psychological help-seeking.

CheckAP: Prevalence of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and performance evaluation of the EARP questionnaire in the population of Portuguese patients with psoriasis followed in a dermatology setting.

Background: The percentage of Portuguese psoriasis patients with psoriatic arthritis is unknown but musculoskeletal complaints related to PsA affect up to a third of patients. Dermatologists can identify early PsA as skin symptoms often precede joint symptoms in 80% of patients. Efficient and easy to perform screening tools are needed to help dermatologists effectively discriminate between Pso and PsA patients.

Introduction: Hearing loss and Deafness/deafness affects as much as 5% of the world's population and has a considerable health and economic burden. We explored the relationship with hearing and hearing aids as well as other assistive technology for health in general with a cohort of UK adults who have conductive hearing loss. We anticipated that insights could lead to greater understanding for the delivery of assistive technology (AT) for conductive hearing loss and the participant's lived experience related to technology and society.

MK-5475, an inhaled soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator, for treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension: the INSIGNIA-PAH study.

Background: MK-5475 is an investigational inhaled soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator hypothesised to avoid most side-effects of systemic vasodilation.

Methods: The phase 2 INSIGNIA-PAH (NCT04732221) trial randomised adults with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) on stable background therapy 1:1:1:1 to once-daily dosing with placebo, MK-5475 32 µg, 100 µg or 380 µg dry powder inhalation for 12 weeks.

Objectives: The objectives were to evaluate pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR; primary), 6-min walk distance (6MWD; secondary), additional selected haemodynamic parameters, and safety and tolerability in participants with PAH.

Background:: The aim was to evaluate the usage patterns of adult cochlear implant recipients with a history of pre-lingual or peri-lingual acquired deafness and poor speech intelligibility.

Methods:: A retrospective chart review of all patients meeting inclusion criteria within the patient cohort of the auditory implant centre of the University College London Hospitals was conducted. Methods: A prospective, randomized, single-center trial including breast cancer patients undergoing OP or mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction with implant (IBR) enrolled from November 2019 to October 2021 at the Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças, Breast Unit in Curitiba, Brazil.

Effect of laparoscopic handle size on surgical performance: A randomized crossover trial.

Laparoscopic instrument handles design and dimensions are crucial to determine the configuration of surgeons' hand grip and, therefore, can have a deleterious effect on overall surgical efficiency and surgeons' comfort. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of laparoscopic handle size and hand surface area on surgical task performance. A single-blind, randomized crossover trial was carried out with 29 novice medical students.

Introduction: The selection of appropriate outcomes in clinical trials and systematic reviews is a crucial factor in determining the results that are useful, reliable, and relevant for both patients and healthcare professionals. Clinicians and researchers have been encouraged to develop and apply core outcome sets (COS) to minimise the discrepancy between studies.

Aim: This systematic review is the first phase of the COS development project for clinical trials in temporomandibular disorders (COS-TMD).

A favorable environment for fungi colonization in building materials' surfaces can emerge when certain hygrothermal conditions occur. Thus, reducing fungal growth susceptibility is of major interest. Furthermore, if the integration of bio-wastes is performed in parallel with the development of innovative materials for this purpose, a more sustainable and environmentally friendly material can be obtained.

Screening of Galician grapevine varieties by SNPs, phenotypic traits, and phytopathology.

The genetic erosion of the European grapevine diversity in the last century has promoted the conservation of varieties in germplasm banks to prevent their disappearance. The study of these varieties is necessary as it would allow the diversification of the wine market, as well as provide a source of genes to face new pathogens or climate constraints. In this work, the grapevine varieties preserved in the "Estación de Viticultura e Enoloxía de Galicia" (EVEGA) Germplasm Bank (Ourense, Spain) were widely characterized, combining ampelography, ampelometry, agronomy, and phytopathology.

Castor (Ricinus communis) is a relevant industrial oilseed feedstock for many industrial applications, being globally mainly cultivated by smallholder farmers in semiarid areas, where abiotic stresses predominate. Therefore, susceptible to generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) and subsequent oxidative stress, compromising cell metabolism upon seed imbibition and germination, seedling and crop establishment, and yield. The present study evaluated the consequences of water restriction by Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and Sodium chloride (NaCl) on cell cycle and metabolism reactivation on germinability, seedling growth, and vigor parameters in 2 commercial castor genotypes (Nordestina and Paraguaçu).

Design of Experiment for Optimizing Microencapsulation by the Solvent Evaporation Technique.

We employed microemulsion combined with the solvent evaporation technique to produce biodegradable polycaprolactone (PCL) MCs, containing encapsulated isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), to act as crosslinkers in high-performance adhesive formulations. The MC production process was optimized by applying a design of experiment (DoE) statistical approach, aimed at decreasing the MCs' average size. For that, three different factors were considered, namely the concentration of two emulsifiers, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and gum arabic (GA); and the oil-to-water phase ratio of the emulsion.

Audience response system smartphone application as an adjunct to tuberculosis teaching for medical students during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Objective: The growing availability of devices for mobile learning has created new opportunities for teaching. With the development of smartphone apps based on audience response systems, there is a possibility to quickly assess student knowledge. The education of health professionals, including medical students, is an essential strategy for tuberculosis control.
