Autogenous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the vascular access of choice for chronic kidney disease to patients requiring hemodialysis. However, there still needs to be more consensus on whether the best surgical approach is an end-to-side (ETS) or a side-to-side (STS) anastomosis. This study aims to compare venous maturation rates, midterm patency and postoperative steal syndrome rates between ETS and STS techniques for AVFs.

Introduction: Short bowel syndrome with chronic intestinal failure (SBS/CIF) is the inability to maintain protein-energy, fluid, electrolyte, or micronutrient balance due to a short bowel. Although SBS/CIF is rare, its clinical management is complex, challenging, expensive, and time-consuming.

We report a case of a 34-year-old male patient who has been receiving hemodialysis as renal replacement therapy for 6 years due to immunoglobulin A nephropathy. Lichens are organisms constituted by a symbiotic relationship between a fungus (mycobiont) and a photoautotrophic partner (photobiont). Lichens produce several bioactive compounds; however, the biotechnological exploitation of this organism is hampered by its slow growth. To start studying the possibility of exploiting lichens as alternative sources of bioactive compounds, eighteen lichens were collected in the north of Portugal in order to isolate and study the bioactivity of their photobionts.

Background: Pedal arch interrogation by ultrasound through systolic acceleration time measurement (Pedal Acceleration Time [PAT]) is a recently described technique that offers valuable insights into foot hemodynamics. Previous studies have demonstrated a correlation between PAT and the ankle-brachial index and PAT has been proposed as a prognostic tool for wound healing in patients with peripheral artery disease. Sleep Quality in CrossFit: A Cross-Sectional Study.

 Based on the relationship between sleep and sports performance, the present study aimed to evaluate sleep quality and excessive daytime sleepiness among adult CrossFit (CrossFit, LLC, Santa Cruz, CA, USA) practitioners and to verify possible associations with intestinal health.  This cross-sectional study involved males and females aged ≥ 18 years who had been regularly practicing CrossFit for at least 3 months. This survey used an online questionnaire addressing demographic and socioeconomic data, disease history, dietary characteristics, and questions regarding CrossFit.

This study evaluated the physicochemical characteristics of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) as a potential vehicle for cannabidiol (CBD), a lipophilic molecule with great potential to promote health benefits. We aimed to describe the clinical findings of changes in resting metabolism, muscle strength, and body composition in nonhospitalized patients after being diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: Physically active patients were evaluated at a nutrition clinic, and indirect calorimetry (IC) and body composition analysis using portable ultrasound were performed.
