Developmental profile of Filipino children born during the SARS-COV-2 pandemic: pilot study.

Objective: The Philippines experienced one of the longest restriction periods during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to provide a developmental profile of 18-25 month-old children and identify factors associated with their development during their early years being born and raised during the pandemic.

Methods: The study population was recruited through convenience sampling among families living in proximity to the daycare centers in Cainta, Rizal, Philippines.

The prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies within the community of a private tertiary university in the Philippines: A serial cross sectional study.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a public health emergency in all sectors of society, including universities and other academic institutions. This study determined the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among administrators, faculty, staff, and students of a private tertiary academic institution in the Philippines over a 7 month period. It employed a serial cross-sectional method using qualitative and quantitative COVID-19 antibody test kits.

Prevalence and determinants of home delivery in urban and rural Philippines: Evidence from the 2017 National Demographic and Health Survey.

Background: Women's choice of place of delivery has implications on maternal and child mortality. This study aims to provide an updated and detailed comparison of prevalence and determinants of home delivery in the Philippines, and in urban and rural communities.

Methods: Based on data from the 2017 Philippine National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), we estimated the prevalence of home delivery and determined factors influencing women's decision to deliver at home.

COVID-19 vaccine brand hesitancy and other challenges to vaccination in the Philippines.

Effective and safe COVID-19 vaccines have been developed at a rapid and unprecedented pace to control the spread of the virus, and prevent hospitalisations and deaths. However, COVID-19 vaccine uptake is challenged by vaccine hesitancy and anti-vaccination sentiments, a global shortage of vaccine supply, and inequitable vaccine distribution especially among low- and middle-income countries including the Philippines. In this paper, we explored vaccination narratives and challenges experienced and observed by Filipinos during the early vaccination period.

Addressing the COVID-19 Nutrition Crisis in Vulnerable Communities: Applying a Primary Care Perspective.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and subsequent public health interventions have disrupted food systems all over the world. In the Philippines, where stringent lockdown rules have been implemented, households living in poverty have had to rely largely on food aid in the form of food packs distributed by local governments and private donors. An evaluation of the commonly distributed food items reveals a diet that addresses acute hunger but does not contain sufficient nutrients to promote and maintain health.

Co-Occurrence of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Achondroplasia.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and achondroplasia are common disorders on their own. However, this case of co-occurrence in the same patient has not yet been reported in literature except for a hypothesized statistical probability based on prevalence studies stating that two to five in 10 million children could have the probability of having both conditions occurring simultaneously. Achondroplasia typically presents with motor delays and difficulties that are related to musculoskeletal impairments that can affect self-care, mobility, and social cognition; however, the presence of delays in other domains of development, particularly in social communication, raises a suspicion of a co-occurring autism spectrum disorder.
