Exploring health professionals' knowledge, practices and attitudes regarding gestational diabetes: A cross-sectional Irish national survey.

Aim: Gestational diabetes confers short- and long-term risk of mother and offspring health complications. Healthcare professionals such as endocrinologists, diabetes nurses, dietitians, midwives and general practitioners provide gestational diabetes care. We sought to explore healthcare professionals' perspectives on gestational diabetes care during pregnancy and postpartum.

Effect of supplementation with vitamin D2-enhanced mushrooms on vitamin D status in healthy adults.

Vitamin D deficiency is emerging worldwide and many studies now suggest its role in the development of several chronic diseases. Due to the low level of vitamin D naturally occurring in food there is a need for supplementation and use of vitamin D-enhanced products. The aim of the present study was to determine if daily consumption of vitamin D2-enhanced mushrooms increased vitamin D status in free-living healthy adults or affected markers of the metabolic syndrome.

The potential role of vitamin D enhanced foods in improving vitamin D status.

Low vitamin D intake and status have been reported worldwide and many studies have suggested that this low status may be involved in the development of several chronic diseases. There are a limited number of natural dietary sources of vitamin D leading to a real need for alternatives to improve dietary intake. Enhancement of foods with vitamin D is a possible mode for ensuring increased consumption and thus improved vitamin D status.
