Background And Purpose: Transperineal ultrasound (TPUS) is used clinically for directly assessing prostate motion. Factors affecting accuracy and precision in TPUS motion estimation must be assessed to realise its full potential.

Methods And Materials: Patients were imaged using volumetric TPUS during the Clarity-Pro trial (NCT02388308).

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the use of two MRI sequences (T weighted and T* weighted) for accurately outlining the prostate in radiotherapy compared to traditional CT imaging.
  • Five radiographers individually contoured prostate images from different modalities, and the results showed high agreement with a clinician's gold standard, particularly with T*W MRI.
  • T*W MRI demonstrated lower interobserver variability and improved accuracy than both CT and TW MRI, while also requiring less time for contouring.

Purpose: To evaluate the utility of intraprostatic markers in the treatment verification of prostate cancer radiotherapy. Specific aims were: to compare the effectiveness of offline correction protocols, either using gold markers or bony anatomy; to estimate the potential benefit of online correction protocol's using gold markers; to determine the presence and effect of intrafraction motion.

Methods And Materials: Thirty patients with three gold markers inserted had pretreatment and posttreatment images acquired and were treated using an offline correction protocol and gold markers.
