Introduction: Physical inactivity due to shortness of breath is common among patients with uncontrolled asthma. We evaluated the body mass composition and exercise capacity of patients with poorly controlled asthma, despite maximal inhalation therapy.
Methods: We recruited 56 patients from the Asthma Clinic of the University Hospital of Liège between September 2020 and December 2023, and 14 healthy subjects.
Background: Interstitial fibrosis in lupus nephritis (LN) is often infiltrated by immune cells but typically regarded as nonspecific "scar reaction." This study aimed to investigate the relationship between inflammatory fibrosis and kidney disease progression in LN.
Methods: Interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy (IFTA) were scored in 124 LN kidney biopsies.
Antiviral therapy is underutilized for outpatients at increased risk for severe COVID-19 or influenza. Results from this survey offer insights into treatment barriers from the infectious disease specialist perspective. Further education is needed about the benefits of early antiviral therapy.

Replicating neural responses observed in biological systems using artificial neural networks holds significant promise in the fields of medicine and engineering. In this study, we employ ultra-fast artificial neurons based on antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin Hall oscillators to emulate the biological withdrawal reflex responsible for self-preservation against noxious stimuli, such as pain or temperature. As a result of utilizing the dynamics of AFM neurons, we are able to construct an artificial neural network that can mimic the functionality and organization of the biological neural network responsible for this reflex.

We recently demonstrated in the adult mouse brain that axon terminals arising from midbrain dopamine neurons innervate the anterior corpus callosum and that oligodendrocyte lineage cells in this white matter tract express dopamine receptor transcripts. Whether corpus callosal dopamine circuitry undergoes maturational changes between early adolescence and adulthood is unknown but may be relevant to understanding the dramatic micro- and macro-anatomical changes that occur in the corpus callosum of multiple species during early adolescence, including in the degree of myelination.

Methods: Following a pre-specified protocol (PROSPERO: CRD42018082395), we retrieved SRs on protein intake and cancer risk published before January 22th 2024, and assessed the methodological quality and outcome-specific certainty of the evidence using a modified version of AMSTAR 2 and NutriGrade, respectively.
Medical education serves to teach students how to think and act as future physicians. Doing so successfully requires supporting learners' acquisition of clinical skills and knowledge, but also attending to their character education and virtue development. The arts and humanities are widely embraced as a fundamental component of a complete medical education.

Background: Many studies reported the effects of antibiotic exposure on bacterial growth and cell modification. However, scarce descriptive information on ultrastructural effects upon exposure of commercial antibiotics.
Methods: This study described the morphological and ultrastructural alterations caused by selected antibiotics (amoxicillin-clavulanate, ceftriaxone, polymyxin B, colistin, gentamicin, and amikacin) that targeted cell wall, plasma membrane, and cytoplasmic density, and also proteins synthesis.
Purified diets (PD) increase standardization and repeatability in rodent studies but lead to differences in the phenotype of animals compared to grain-based "chow" diets. PD contain less fiber and are often devoid of soluble fiber, which can impact gut health. Thus, the aim of the present study was to modify the PD AIN93G by addition of soluble fiber, to promote more natural gut development as seen with chow diets.
