A simplified axisymmetric model of a transfemoral osseointegration implant was used to investigate the influence of the contact condition at the bone-implant interface on the vibrational response. The experimental setup allowed the degree of implant tightness to be controlled using a circumferential compression device affixed to the bone. Diametrically placed sensors allowed torsional modes to be distinguished from flexural modes.

Advancing a Non-Contact Structural and Prognostic Health Assessment of Large Critical Structures.

This paper presents an overview of integrating new research outcomes into the development of a structural health monitoring strategy for the floating cover at the Western Treatment Plant (WTP) in Melbourne, Australia. The size of this floating cover, which covers an area of approximately 470 m × 200 m, combined with the hazardous environment and its exposure to extreme weather conditions, only allows for monitoring techniques based on remote sensing. The floating cover is deformed by the accumulation of sewage matter beneath it.

Optimisation and Calibration of Bayesian Neural Network for Probabilistic Prediction of Biogas Performance in an Anaerobic Lagoon.

This study aims to enhance diagnostic capabilities for optimising the performance of the anaerobic sewage treatment lagoon at Melbourne Water's Western Treatment Plant (WTP) through a novel machine learning (ML)-based monitoring strategy. This strategy employs ML to make accurate probabilistic predictions of biogas performance by leveraging diverse real-life operational and inspection sensor and other measurement data for asset management, decision making, and structural health monitoring (SHM). The paper commences with data analysis and preprocessing of complex irregular datasets to facilitate efficient learning in an artificial neural network.

ETV for successful treatment of holocord syrinx with hydrocephalus: a case report.

Automated multi-objective calibration of biological agent-based simulations.

Computational agent-based simulation (ABS) is increasingly used to complement laboratory techniques in advancing our understanding of biological systems. Calibration, the identification of parameter values that align simulation with biological behaviours, becomes challenging as increasingly complex biological domains are simulated. Complex domains cannot be characterized by single metrics alone, rendering simulation calibration a fundamentally multi-metric optimization problem that typical calibration techniques cannot handle.
