Primary Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive nodal T/NK-cell lymphoma (PTCL-EBV) is a poorly understood disease which shows features resembling extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) and is currently not recognized as a distinct entity but categorized as a variant of primary T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS). Herein, we analyzed copynumber aberrations (n=77) with a focus on global measures of genomic instability and homologous recombination deficiency and performed gene expression (n=84) and EBV miRNA expression (n=24) profiling as well as targeted mutational analysis (n=16) to further characterize PTCL-EBV in relation to ENKTL and PTCL-NOS. Multivariate analysis revealed that patients with PTCL-EBV had a significantly worse outcome compared to patients with PTCL-NOS (P=0.

Neonatal screening for congenital adrenal hyperplasia, another cause of salt wasting, using 17-hydroxyprogesterone measurement would fail to detect aldosterone synthase deficiency, a diagnosis which may be missed until the patient presents with salt-wasting crisis. Due to this potential life-threatening risk, comprehensive hormonal investigation followed by genetic confirmation for suspected patients would facilitate clinical management of the patient and assessment of the genetic implication in their offspring.

Aims: To review the incidence and risk factors of primary hypothyroidism in very low birthweight (VLBW) infants in our centre and to assess their neurodevelopmental outcome.
Method: Retrospective, descriptive review of VLBW infants with primary hypothyroidism from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2008 in a perinatal centre. Case control comparisons for neurodevelopmental outcome at 18 months, nested to a prospective VLBW cohort (Vermont Oxford Database).
This study included 12 Chinese patients with a wide spectrum of phenotypes of tyrosine hydroxylase deficiency. Seven females and 5 males, aged 2.2 to 41 years, had phenotypes ranging from severe type with onset at infancy to mild type with onset after 3 years of age.

Despite medical advances, growth failure and hypogonadism remain significant clinical problems in these patients in adolescence. Disproportionate truncal shortening which is common especially among adolescents with thalassemia, is due to platyspondyly resulting from a combination of factors like hemosiderosis, desferrioxamine toxicity or deficiency of trace elements.

Methods: Fifty-six Hong Kong youths with diabetes received a follow-up evaluation 12-24 months after initial participation. ED, SE, self-reported adherence to medical regimen (SRA), and GC were assessed at both evaluations.
