Leclercia adecarboxylata Sepsis and Cerebral Herniation.

Leclercia adecarboxylata, a gram-negative bacillus of the Enterobacteriaceae family, is rarely identified as a pathogen in humans. We describe a fatal case of L adecarboxylata sepsis in a child. This is the first reported pediatric death associated with infection due to L adecarboxylata.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation as rescue therapy for methadone-induced pulmonary edema.

Opioid-induced pulmonary edema has been previously reported, but its mechanism remains unclear. The use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation as rescue therapy for methadone-induced pulmonary edema has not been reported in the literature. We describe 2 cases of methadone ingestion complicated by pulmonary edema, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and circulatory failure successfully managed with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

PPARgamma agonists inhibit TGF-beta induced pulmonary myofibroblast differentiation and collagen production: implications for therapy of lung fibrosis.

Pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive life-threatening disease for which no effective therapy exists. Myofibroblasts are one of the key effector cells in pulmonary fibrosis and are the primary source of extracellular matrix production. Drugs that inhibit the differentiation of fibroblasts to myofibroblasts have potential as antifibrotic therapies.
