Light-activated sensors are of great interest for biological applications but are limited by the depth of penetration of light. We have been interested in transducing light activation to a magnetic signal that can be detected through noninvasive imaging by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We have previously developed agents incorporating spiropyran derivatives as the sensing moiety and characterized features that influence photoswitching; however, we found the MRI response to be unpredictable.

Methods: Two hundred and ninety-seven patients will be randomized in a 1:2 ratio between the control arm (consisting of standard of care [SOC] palliative-intent treatments), and the SABR arm (consisting of SOC treatment + SABR to all sites of known disease). Randomization will be stratified by two factors: histology (prostate, breast, or renal vs.
Background: The objectives of this study were to characterize (1) epidemiology of brain metastases at the time of primary cancer diagnosis, (2) incidence and trends of synchronous brain metastases from 2010 to 2015, and (3) overall survival (OS) of patients with synchronous brain metastases.
Methods: A total of 42 047 patients with synchronous brain metastases from 2010 to 2015 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Descriptive analysis was utilized to analyze demographics and incidence.
Background: Oral daily tenofovir (TFV) disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine (TDF/FTC) for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is highly effective for HIVprevention, yet long-term effects are not fully understood. We investigated the effects of PrEP on the rectal microbiome in a cohort of men who have sex with men (MSM).
Methods: This cross-sectional analysis included HIV-negative MSM either on PrEP (n = 37) or not (n = 37) selected from an ongoing cohort using propensity score matching.
Background: Cigarette smoking is carcinogenic and has been linked to inferior treatment outcomes and complication rates in cancer patients. Here, we report the results of an 18-month pilot smoking cessation program that provided free nicotine replacement therapy (nrt).
Methods: In January 2017, the smoking cessation program at our institution began offering free nrt for actively cigarette-smoking patients with cancer.
Treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) requires significant healthcare resource utilization (HRU), including lengthy hospitalizations. In a phase 3 study (NCT01696084), CPX-351 (Vyxeos) showed significant benefits to overall survival and complete remission versus conventional 7 + 3 cytarabine/daunorubicin. This analysis evaluated HRU in patients aged 60-75 years with newly diagnosed high-risk/secondary AML treated with CPX-351 versus 7 + 3 in the phase 3 study.

We report 4 cases of patients with functional NEN treated with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) to either the primary/dominant metastatic site of disease or the end organ of hormonal release. No significant toxicities were observed during or after treatment.

The Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) is a tool developed to elicit patients' own assessment of the severity of common cancer-associated symptoms. The objective of this study was to examine symptom severity in the 12 months following diagnosis of lung cancer, and to identify predictors of high symptom burden.

Prior to CPX-351 commercialization, an expanded access program (EAP) provided CPX-351 access for this population in the United States. In this phase 4, single-arm, open-label study (NCT02533115), 52 patients were treated with CPX-351 for 1-2 induction cycles and ≤4 consolidation cycles.

We propose a gamma generalized linear model identity link (GGLM-ID) framework that factors the inherent CV into parameter estimates. We first examined the effects on calculations of contrast agent relaxivity before broadening to other applications such as analysis of variance (ANOVA) and liver iron content (LIC).

While β-lactam antibiotics are commonly used against and , there are limited data on OM permeability especially in Here, we developed a novel cassette assay, which can simultaneously quantify the OM permeability to five β-lactams in carbapenem-resistant and Both clinical isolates harbored a and several other β-lactamases. The OM permeability of each antibiotic was studied separately ("discrete assay") and simultaneously ("cassette assay") by determining the degradation of extracellular β-lactam concentrations via multiplex liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analyses.

Methods: Patients with EDS were surveyed via the EDS Society and asked about their ophthalmic surgical experiences including procedure, complications, and the timing with respect to receiving the EDS diagnosis.
Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) has emerged as a treatment modality for selected patients with oligometastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The objectives of this systematic review were to explore the benefits and risks of SBRT for extracranial oligometastatic NSCLC. The MEDLINE, Embase, PubMed, and CENTRAL databases were searched for relevant articles from January 1, 2000 to July 23, 2019.

While wearable sensors have the potential to alleviate these issues, many are beyond the financial capabilities of the majority of African persons and clinics. To bridge this gap, we have developed a low-cost wrist-worn sensor (the outREACH sensor) capable of accurately measuring upper limb movement kinematics.

SABR is able to obtain high rates of local control with low rates of symptomatic toxicity in this patient population. However, in a subset of patients with fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD), elevated rates of SABR-related toxicity and mortality have been described.

Recent advances in imaging and therapeutic strategy have identified a subset of patients with limited metastases who may benefit from early local ablative therapy with either surgery or radiotherapy, in addition to standard treatment. Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is increasingly used in the treatment of extra-cranial oligometastatic NSCLC (OM-NSCLC) due its non-invasive conduct and ability to deliver high doses.

Lung cancer is a major cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Although radiotherapy (RT) may be beneficial in the radical and/or palliative management of many lung cancer patients, it is underutilized worldwide. Population-level development of RT resources requires estimates of optimal radiotherapy utilization rates (ORUR) and actual radiotherapy utilization rate (ARUR).
