Optical properties investigation and multicolor behavior of neodymium (Nd)-doped oxyfluoride silicate glasses SiO-PbO-PbF.

The aim of this research is to investigate novel compositions of oxyfluoride glasses doped with Neodymium (Nd) rare earth ions in the visible spectrum. This area has not been extensively studied in the existing literature, so it is vital to understand the favorable photoluminescence characteristics within this part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Therefore, we synthesized and characterized SiO-PbO-PbF (SPF) doped with 1% neodymium (Nd) ions glasses.

Aberrant expression of CD5 in a case of B acute lymphoblastic leukemia positive Philadelphia chromosome.

Introduction: B acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (B-ALL) is a proliferation of hematopoietic precursor cells characterized by the expression of various B-cell antigens. Expression of T cell antigens has rarely been reported in B-ALL. We report the second case CD5+ (Cluster of differentiation 5) B-ALL associated with Philadelphia chromosome (Phi+).

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm: a diagnosis not to be missed, about three case reports.

Introduction: Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a proliferation of plasmacytoid cell precursors. It is a rare and difficult-to-diagnose hematological malignancy with a poor outcome.

Case Presentation: We report three cases of BPDCN diagnosed in patients of different nationalities (Tunisian, Algerian and Libyan) and varying ages (eight, 65 and 74 years old).

[Primary plasma cell leukemia: what role does flow cytometry play?].

Primary plasma leukemia is defined by the presence of more than 20% plasma cells in the peripheral blood or number of circulating plasma cells greater than 2G/L. It has points in common with multiple myeloma and has certain characteristics, in particular its aggressiveness and poor prognosis. Through 02 cases diagnosed in the flow cytometry laboratory, the authors present the clinical, cytological and especially immunophenotypic features of this disease, with the emphasis on the role of flow cytometry in the diagnosis.

Materials And Methods: An electronic databases in PubMed, Embase, Web of Knowledge, Scopus and Cochrane were searched using combinations of keywords relating to MDR1 polymorphisms and the response to IM in CML. Studies retrieved from database searches were screened using strict inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Overexpression of P-glycoprotein and resistance to Imatinib in chronic myeloid leukemia patients.

Background: The P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is one of the mechanisms of Imatinib (IM) resistance in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). P-gp has been identified as an efflux pump involved in releasing of IM outside CML cells. To date, the P-gp involvement in the IM resistance development was not completely understood.

Blood lymphocyte T subsets reference values in blood donors by flow cytometry.

Aims: To determine region-specific reference ranges of lymphocyte T subsets in blood donors and to assess the influence of gender and age on lymphocyte T susbsets.

Methods: Blood samples from 143 blood donors were collected in the Blood Transfusion Center of Sfax. Lymphocyte T subsets were analyzed using a dual-platform method with a flow cytometer (percentages) and an automated hematology analyzer (white blood cells and lymphocytes).

Antioxidant effect of hydroxytyrosol on human sperm quality during in vitro incubation.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the antioxidant potential of hydroxytyrosol (HT) on human sperm quality during incubation in vitro. Semen samples collected from men attending the Laboratory of Histology-Embryology of Sfax Faculty of Medicine (Tunisia) for infertility investigations were evaluated for initial sperm parameters. Only normal selected ejaculates (n = 15) were centrifuged and incubated further with or without HT (200ug ml ) at room temperature for 45 min.

[Difficulties of the care of public antigen alloimmunization].

Alloimmunization against high-frequency erythrocyte antigens is a problematic situation in terms of laboratory diagnosis, transfusion and obstetrical management. We report the case of a pregnant woman alloimmunized against public Ag. We detail the difficulties of alloantibody (Ab) identification and transfusion management of the deliveries.

Molecular detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and other sexually transmitted bacteria in semen of male partners of infertile couples in Tunisia: the effect on semen parameters and spermatozoa apoptosis markers.

This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasmas, and Ureaplasmas in semen samples of the male partners of infertile couples and to investigate whether Chlamydia trachomatis could initiate apoptosis in human spermatozoa. A total of 85 males partners of infertile couples undergoing routine semen analysis according to World Health Organization guidelines were included. Specimens were examined for the presence of Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma hominis, Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma urealyticum and Ureaplasma parvum by Real time PCR (qPCR).

[Red blood cell immunization in haemoglobinopathie: about 84 cases].

Aims: To estimate the rate of red cell immunization in hemoglobinopathies.

Patients And Methods: Prospective study (1990-2009) about 84 patients: 44 homozygous sickle cell anemia, one heterozygous sickle cell anemia S/C, 30 thalassemia and nine sickle cell anemia-thalassemia. The mean age was 10.

[Irregular antibody testing during pregnancy in Tunisia: clinical study of 5369 women].

Purpose Of The Study: To evaluate the prevalence of alloimmunization in women followed in an obstetrical environment in Tunisia, to identify the specificities of antibodies found and to determine factors that could influence the appearance of this immunization.

Methods: We proceeded to a retrospective analysis of search for irregular antibodies in women followed up in obstetrical environment over nine consecutive years (2000-2008). The panel was officially defined and produced by the Regional Centre for Blood Transfusion in Sfax (Tunisia).

Comparison of hepatitis A seroprevalence in blood donors in South Tunisia between 2000 and 2007.

The aim of the study was to assess hepatitis A virus (HAV) seroprevalence in blood donors from South Tunisia in two periods 2000 and 2007. Serum samples collected from 376 blood donors in each period aged 18 to 30 years from different regions of South Tunisia were analysed for anti-HAV IgG. The global seroprevalence of HAV infection was 85.

[Ultrasonography in the diagnostic approach of septic arthritis].

Purpose Of The Study: Septic arthritis is frequent in Tunisia and is responsible for orthopedic sequela. The purpose of this study was to establish the indication and the viability of ultrasound scanning in the early diagnosis of septic arthritis.
