A novel, to our knowledge, approach for generating optical pulses with programmable positions in an actively mode-locked (AML) optical cavity is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the AML, active mode locking occurs when the cavity gain exceeds one, and the cavity round trip time equals integer multiples of the repetition period of the electrical driving signal. The generated optical pulses are present at the positions where the optical cavity operates at its maximum transmission points.

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-based therapies have emerged as promising methods for regenerative medicine; however, how to precisely enhance their tissue repair effects is still a major question in the field. Circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from diseased states carry diverse pathological information and affect the functions of recipient cells. Based on this unique property, we report that disease-derived circulating EV (disease-EV) preconditioning is a potent strategy for precisely enhancing the tissue repair potency of MSCs in diverse disease models.

This paper investigates the motion state estimation problem of the unmanned surface vehicle (USV) steering system in wireless sensor networks based on the binary coding scheme (BCS). In response to the presence of bandwidth constraints and mixed cyber-attacks in USV communication networks, this paper proposes an improved set-membership state estimation algorithm based on BCS. This algorithm partially addresses the problem of degraded performance in USV steering motion state estimation caused by mixed cyber-attacks and bandwidth constraints.

  • Extranodal extension (ENE) is included in the cancer staging for hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HypoSCC), but its effects on survival rates and treatment effectiveness are not fully understood.
  • A study of 388 HypoSCC patients revealed that those with ENE had much lower 5-year overall survival rates (22.9% with radiological ENE and 40.3% with pathological ENE) compared to those without ENE (55.5%).
  • The research suggests that ENE is a significant risk factor for poorer survival outcomes, and that upfront neck dissection can improve disease-free survival and control in both ENE+ and ENE- patients.

To expand the reliability of interferometry technology, this paper proposes a random two-frame algorithm with high accuracy, high robustness, and immunity to tilt phase-shift. This method uses the equivalence of inter-frame phase-shift and intra-frame phase difference to mine light intensity pixels carrying new phase-shift from different images. Then, the linear random phase-shift plane is fitted by least squares, and the inverse tangent relationship is used to obtain a high-precision phase distribution.

In this manuscript, a simple one-pot heat-up method has been used to prepare multi-component copper-tin-sulfur nanomaterials, including binary CuS, ternary CuSnS, and CuS/CuSnS nanocrystals by varying the reaction temperature, reaction time, and the type of copper source. Post-synthetic ligand exchange (LE) has further been introduced to replace the long-chain ligands originating from 1-dodecanethiol. It has been found that the LE process not only changes the surface ligands but also significantly affects the crystal structure and optical properties of nanocrystals.
