It is generally a unidirectional progression of cellular and molecular changes occurring during the life stages of cells, tissues and ultimately the whole organism. Introduction: Solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs) are believed to have an increased risk of metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), but reliable data are lacking regarding the precise incidence and associated risk factors.

Methods: In a prospective cohort study, including 19 specialist dermatology outpatient clinics in 15 countries, patient and tumor characteristics were collected using standardized questionnaires when SOTRs presented with a new cSCC. After a minimum of 2 years of follow-up, relevant data for all SOTRs were collected.

In human papillomavirus DNA replication, the viral protein E2 forms homodimers and binds to 12-bp palindromic DNA sequences surrounding the origin of DNA replication. Via a protein-protein interaction, it then recruits the viral helicase E1 to an A/T-rich origin of replication, whereupon a dihexamer forms, resulting in DNA replication initiation. In order to carry out DNA replication, the viral proteins must interact with host factors that are currently not all known.

The Src family tyrosine kinases are key modulators of cancer cell invasion and metastasis and a number of Src kinase inhibitors are currently in clinical development for the treatment of solid tumours. Multiple self-healing squamous epithelioma (MSSE), also known as Ferguson-Smith Disease, is a rare cancer-associated genodermatosis with an autosomal dominant inheritance. Affected patients suffer from recurrent skin lesions, which clinically and histologically resemble keratoacanthomas or well-differentiated squamous cell carcinomas, but which, if left, undergo spontaneous regression, leaving pronounced scarring. The majority of MSSE cases previously described were of Scottish ancestry and all shared the same at-risk haplotype, suggesting that this disorder was caused by a founder mutation.
