One of the key issues to develop biosensing platforms concerns the processes involved in enzyme immobilization on surfaces. The understanding of their fundamentals is crucial to obtain stable and catalytically active protein layers for developing successful biosensing devices. Methods And Results: Competitive peptides displacing AKAP121 from mitochondria in the tissue and in the cells were used to investigate the role of AKAP121 in mitochondrial function, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, and cell survival. Displacement of AKAP121 from mitochondria by synthetic peptides triggers the death program in cardiomyocytes.
A comparative study of three different strategies to pattern lactate oxidase (LOx) onto bare gold substrates by microcontact printing (muCP) is presented. The quality of the resulting patterns in terms of homogeneity, compactness and stability has been evaluated by atomic force microscopy in both air and aqueous conditions. The following approaches have been tested: (i) LOx was directly stamped to a bare gold surface; (ii) LOx was previously covalently bonded to a thiolated molecule, dithiodipropionic acid di(N-succinimidyl ester) (DTSP), and this conjugate (LOx/DTSP) was transferred from an elastomeric stamp to a bare gold substrate; (iii) formation of a LOx/DTSP micropattern on a bare gold surface (as described in approach ii) was followed by exposure to a solution containing hexadecylmercaptane (HDM).

Methods: Clinical data of patients who underwent kidney surgery with the da Vinci surgical system from September 2006 to April 2009 were reviewed. Data acquired from medical records included patient demographics, operative time, estimated blood loss (EBL), incidence of intraoperative complication, duration of hospital stay, blood transfusion rate, oncological outcomes, and follow-up results.
The occurrence of multiple primary tumors is rare. Here we present a case of a 65-year-old male with a longstanding cardiac condition who presented with synchronous adenocarinoma of the stomach and prostate. Both cancers were managed simultaneously using robot-assisted laparoscopy techniques.

Materials And Methods: Between December 2008 and August 2009 we performed 50 laparoendoscopic single site surgeries using the Alexis wound retractor, which was inserted at the umbilical incision. A homemade single port device was made by fixing a size 7 1/2 surgical glove to the retractor outer ring and securing the glove fingers to the end of 3 or 4 trocars with a tie and a rubber band.
Background: Use of drug-eluting stents in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains an "off label" indication due to concerns regarding their performance in this patient subset.
Methods: We searched Medline, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Internet-based sources of information on clinical trials in cardiology for randomized trials comparing drug-eluting stents with bare-metal stents in patients with AMI. Hazard ratios for the composite of death or recurrent myocardial infarction, (primary safety endpoint), reintervention (primary efficacy endpoint), death, recurrent myocardial infarction, and stent thrombosis were calculated performing a meta-analysis of 14 randomized trials with 7,781 patients.

The design and characterization of a lactate biosensor using a nanostructured rough gold surface as a transducer is reported. The biosensor is developed by immobilization of lactate oxidase (LOx), on a rough gold electrode modified with a self-assembled monolayer of dithiobis-N-succinimidyl propionate (DTSP). This bifunctional reagent preserves the rough gold structure and allows further covalent immobilization of the enzyme through the terminal succinimidyl groups.

The repositioning of the atrial lead immediately improved symptoms, whereas complete regression of left ventricular wall motion abnormalities occurred after 1 month. We hypothesize that haemodynamic and hormonal responses associated with a PM syndrome, such as increased levels of catecholamines, may account for TTC in our patient.

The electrocardiogram showed typical Osborn waves, which disappeared with the rewarming of the patient.
