Article Synopsis
  • Endophthalmitis is primarily treated with intravitreal antibiotics and, if needed, pars plana vitrectomy, but severe cases may require enucleation or evisceration (ENEV).
  • A study reviewed medical charts of 69 eyes with infectious endophthalmitis to identify risk factors for ENEV versus preservation of the eyeball (EP).
  • Findings indicate that eyes with no light perception, panophthalmitis, or exogenous causes are at higher risk for ENEV, while those with postsurgical origins may have a lower risk.
