Background: Detecting peripheral neuropathy (PNP) is crucial in preventing complications such as foot ulceration. Clinical examinations for PNP are infrequently provided to patients at high risk due to restrictions on facilities, care providers, or time. A gamified health assessment approach combining wearable sensors holds the potential to address these challenges and provide individuals with instantaneous feedback on their health status.

Objective: We aimed to investigate PNP and CD in a diabetes cohort and explore the possibility of identifying key features linked with the respective conditions by machine learning algorithms applied to data sets obtained in playful games controlled by sensor-equipped insoles.
Methods: In a cohort of patients diagnosed with diabetes (n=261) aged over 50 years PNP and CD were diagnosed based on complete physical examination (neuropathy symptom and disability scores, and Montreal Cognitive Assessment).
We demonstrate the control of multiphoton electron excitations in InAs nanowires (NWs) by altering the crystal structure and the light polarization. Using few-cycle, near-infrared laser pulses from an optical parametric chirped-pulse amplification system, we induce multiphoton electron excitations in InAs nanowires with controlled wurtzite (WZ) and zincblende (ZB) segments. With a photoemission electron microscope, we show that we can selectively induce multiphoton electron emission from WZ or ZB segments of the same wire by varying the light polarization.

We demonstrate how the dynamics can be probed through high-order harmonic generation, where different trajectories leading to the same harmonic order are initiated at different times, thereby probing different field strengths. We find large differences between the trajectories with respect to both their sensitivity to driving field ellipticity and resonant enhancement.

By combining few-femtosecond laser pulses with photoemission electron microscopy, we study the dynamics of the induced few-cycle near-field in individual bowtie nanoantennas. We investigate how the dynamics depend on antenna size and exact bowtie shape resulting from fabrication.

However, spatially resolved characterization of few-cycle plasmon dynamics poses a major challenge due to the extreme length and time scales involved. In this Letter, we experimentally demonstrate local variations in the dynamics during the few strongest cycles of plasmon-enhanced fields within individual rice-shaped silver nanoparticles.

We generate high-order harmonics at high pulse repetition rates using a turnkey laser. High-order harmonics at 400 kHz are observed when argon is used as target gas. In neon, we achieve generation of photons with energies exceeding 90 eV (∼13 nm) at 20 kHz.

Method: Data are presented from behavioral observations (N=243), surveys (N=677), and focus groups (N=26) conducted with tweens attending four urban elementary schools in Virginia. The populations assessed were predominantly black (77.
We report on the fabrication and characterization of amplitude and phase samples consisting of well defined Au or Al features formed on ultrathin silicon nitride membranes. The samples were manufactured using electron beam lithography, metallization and a lift-off technique, which allow precise lateral control and thickness of the metal features. The fabricated specimens were evaluated by conventional microscopy, atomic force microscopy and with the digital in-line holography set-up at the Lund Laser Centre.

Caregivers of booster-aged children are particularly difficult to reach because they do not consider their children to be of "safety-seat" age and have inherently low perceptions of vulnerability to crash injury. Unfortunately, most booster seat programs fail to adequately motivate their intended population because they are primarily informational in nature and rely on caregivers to seek out and attend to the information.

Objectives: To develop a scale for measuring parental perceptions of childhood injury risk.
Methods: The Worry Assessment and Risk Estimation (WARE) Scale was administered to 256 parents/guardians to examine reliability, factor structure, and perception of risk.
Results: The WARE Scale has high internal consistency reliability (alpha = .
In two experiments using a radial-arm maze, pairs of rats made choices among eight maze locations, each containing a large quantity of one of two food types. The choices made by 1 rat affected the choices made by the other rat. Under most conditions, visits by 1 rat increased the tendency of the other rat to subsequently choose that maze location.

Unlabelled: Over the past decade, school districts have been required to develop comprehensive emergency management plans designed to effectively coordinate resources to respond during a range of crisis situations. Although many school systems have implemented school safety plans, few have systematically evaluated the short-term or long-term effectiveness of the plans. This study proposes a model for planning, executing, and evaluating a multiagency mock drill.

Pairs of rats were tested in a radial-arm maze to determine whether the spatial choices made by one rat affect the subsequent spatial choices of the other rat. In a free-choice procedure, rats showed an increased tendency to choose the location that had most recently been chosen by a foraging partner but a decreased tendency to visit locations that the foraging partner had visited earlier. Forced-choice procedures were used to better control the social stimulus and the interactions between the rats.

The levels of Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu, Pb and Cd were determined in fresh vegetables obtained from central storerooms of the WSO in Katowice which were intended for market in that Province. Vegetable samples were taken from the stores twice in the months from September to March in the years 1986-1987. At the same time similar analyses were done of raw milk and milk for consumption from the market and from certain dairy cooperatives in the Province.

The amounts of Cd and Pb consumed with vegetables were determined in four groups of households: workmen, workmen-peasants, farmers and pensioned workers and persons receiving disability allowances. The chemical analysis was done, in the first place, of vegetables with edible roots in which Pb and Cd were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The vegetables were bought in 1986-1987 by the Province Gardeners Cooperative in the Province of Katowice (mining and industrial region) and from the Province of Katowice and Warsaw.
