Glucose Testing Methods: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Diagnostic Accuracy of Point-of-Care Devices for Neonatal Hypoglycemia.

Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of various point-of-care device methodologies for measuring blood glucose concentrations in babies at risk of neonatal hypoglycemia.

Study Design: This systematic review and meta-analysis included studies from Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, and Web of Science up to May 20, 2024. Studies comparing point-of-care testing methods for neonatal blood glucose to a standard laboratory method were included, excluding those on continuous glucose monitoring or conducted before 1990.

Intravenous Dextrose for the Treatment of Neonatal Hypoglycaemia: A Systematic Review.

Introduction: Hypoglycaemic neonates are usually admitted to neonatal intensive care for intravenous (IV) dextrose infusion if increased feeding and dextrose gel fail to restore normoglycaemia. However, the effectiveness of this intervention is uncertain. This review aimed to assess the evidence for the risks and benefits of IV dextrose for treatment of neonatal hypoglycaemia.

Medication use in people with cystic fibrosis before and after modulator therapy.

Background: Long-term changes in medication dispensings post cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator initiation have not been described. Our study aimed to investigate changes in medication use following the initiation of modulator therapy in people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF) in Australia.

Methods: Using a 10% sample of the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) data between 2013 and 2022, linear regression was used to analyse dispensings in PwCF who initiated any modulator (cases) and matched PwCF controls not dispensed a modulator.

Teachers' stress and training in a school-based mindfulness program: Implementation results from a cluster randomized controlled trial.

School-based mindfulness trainings (SBMT) are a contemporary approach for intervening to promote students' social and emotional skills and well-being. Despite evidence from the larger field of evidence-based social and emotional learning programs demonstrating the importance of high-quality implementation, few studies have investigated factors impacting the implementation of SBMTs, particularly teacher-level influences. The present study addressed this issue by investigating whether teachers' stress, trust in their fellow teachers and principal, and expectations about the program at baseline predicted the quality of their implementation of a SBMT for students.

Methods: This study involved 3 phases: a 12-month retrospective audit of PwCF prescribed tobramycin to identify the appropriateness of pharmacists' dose recommendations, a pharmacist tobramycin educational intervention utilizing a voiceover presentation with pre- and post-online tobramycin TDM assessment (involving multiple choice pharmacokinetics and case-based scenario questions), and a cross-sectional survey of respiratory nurses' and doctors' perceptions toward pharmacist-led TDM charting.

Fluid Needs in the Older Adult Receiving Tube Feedings.

Fluid imbalance can occur quickly in older adults and in others who cannot express thirst or are in a setting where fluid status is not closely monitored. In tube-fed individuals receiving inadequate calories, severe malnutrition may occur in weeks to months, but improper water intake may lead to critical fluid imbalances in a matter of days. Simplistic equations frequently used to determine fluid needs in adults include milliliters per kilogram of body weight and milliliters per energy (kilocalories) consumed or per energy (kilocalories) need and variations of the Holliday-Segar formula.
