Article Synopsis
  • - Integrated photonic platforms have been growing in popularity, each boasting unique advantages and challenges, particularly in merging different optical materials into a single integrated system.
  • - Silicon carbide (SiC) is a highly promising material due to its favorable optical properties, but existing methods for integrating it into photonic platforms are inefficient, expensive, and inaccurate.
  • - This study presents a method to deposit high-index amorphous silicon carbide films at lower temperatures, achieving high-performing waveguides and ring resonators, showing promise for future integration with other low-loss materials.

Robots used in research on Embodied AI often need to physically explore the world, to fail in the process, and to develop from such experiences. Most research robots are unfortunately too stiff to safely absorb impacts, too expensive to repair if broken repeatedly, and are never operated without the red kill-switch prominently displayed. The GummiArm Project was intended to be an open-source "soft" robot arm with human-inspired tendon actuation, sufficient dexterity for simple manipulation tasks, and with an eye on enabling easy replication of robotics experiments.

Aminoglycosides (AMG) remain an important therapeutic modality for the treatment of gram-negative infections. Adequate AMG levels have been associated with a lower risk of toxicity. Because AMG levels cannot be predicted with confidence, drug concentrations need to be measured.
