Background: The global burden associated with antimicrobial resistance is of increasing concern.
Aim: To evaluate risk factors associated with multidrug-resistant (MDR) infection and its clinical impact in a cohort of patients with healthcare-associated bacteraemic urinary tract infections (BUTIs).
Methods: This was a prospective, multicentre, post-hoc analysis of patients with healthcare-associated-BUTI (ITUBRAS-2).
Purpose: The aim was to analyse the clinical and economic impact of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) infections.
Methods: Case-control study. Adult patients with CPE infections were considered cases, while those with non-CPE infections were controls.
Purpose: To design a randomized clinical trial to assess the efficacy and safety of favipiravir in patients with COVID-19 disease with pneumonia.
Methods: A randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of favipiravir in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia was conducted in three Spanish sites. Randomization 1:1 to favipiravir or placebo (in both groups added to the Standard of Care) was performed to treat the patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.
In some cases, colistin is the only treatment option for infections caused by the very drug-resistant . However, in the past decade, there have been questions concerning its pharmacokinetics and concentration at the site of infection. In this scenario, its use in a difficult-to-treat infection like pneumonia is currently debatable.

The aim of this study was to evaluate SeptiCyte RAPID, a host immune response assay (Immunexpress, Seattle USA) as a triaging tool for COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization and potentially ICU care. SeptiCyte RAPID employs a host gene expression signature consisting of the ratio of expression levels of two immune related mRNAs, PLA2G7 and PLAC8, measured from whole blood samples.

The patient was critically ill with ventilator-associated pneumonia caused by XDR ST175 with CAZ-AVI MIC of 6 mg/L and was treated with CAZ-AVI in continuous infusion at doses adjusted for renal function. Plasma concentrations of CAZ-AVI were analyzed on days 3, 7, and 10.

This study aims to assess the association between in-hospital mortality and at admission CD4/CD8 ratio among individuals with acute SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Methods: This is a longitudinal cohort study with data of all consecutive patients admitted to the COVID-19 unit at Hospital del Mar, Barcelona, Spain for ≥48 h between March to May 2020.
The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of intermittent (1-h), extended (4-h), and continuous ceftolozane-tazobactam (C/T) infusion against three extensively drug-resistant (XDR) sequence type (ST) 175 P. aeruginosa isolates with different susceptibilities to C/T (MIC = 2 to 16 mg/L) in a 7-day hollow-fiber infection model (HFIM). C/T in continuous infusion achieved the largest reduction in total number of bacterial colonies in the overall treatment arms for both C/T-susceptible and -resistant isolates.

Design And Setting: This is a retrospective cohort study using 15 healthcare databases (primary and secondary electronic healthcare records, insurance and national claims data) from the USA, Europe and South Korea, standardised to the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership common data model. Data were gathered from 1 March to 31 October 2020.

Introduction: Extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) infections are difficult to treat. We aimed to compare aminoglycosides or polymyxin monotherapy versus other antibiotic regimens (carbapenems, aztreonam, ceftazidime, cefepime, ceftolozane-tazobactam, or ceftazidime-avibactam) in complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI) caused by XDR-PA.
Methods: Study performed at a tertiary-care hospital from 2010 to 2019.
Dalbavancin is a new antibiotic that is effective against Gram-positive microorganisms, including methicillin-resistant , and offers the possibility of administering intravenous therapy once weekly in an ambulatory setting. We conducted a multicenter observational case-control study, comparing all patients who received dalbavancin (cases) with hospitalized patients who were treated instead with daptomycin, linezolid or vancomycin (controls), based on clinical diagnosis, main microorganism involved, and age. The primary outcome was the length of hospital stay after starting the study antimicrobial.

Research Design And Methods: A total of 91 patients were included. We measured glycemia at admission and estimated the average chronic glucose levels to calculate the A/C glycemic ratio.
Unlabelled: Serum albumin levels have been associated with prognosis in several conditions among older adults. The aim of this study is to assess the prognostic value in mortality of serum albumin in older adults with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Methods: Cohort observational study with consecutive older-adults (≥65 years old), with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection admitted to a university hospital between March-May 2020.

Ceftolozane-tazobactam is currently the most active antipseudomonal agent, including multidrug-resistant extensively drug-resistant strains. Tazobactam provides additional activity against many extended-spectrum beta-lactamases Enterobacterales. Ceftolozane-tazobactam is formally approved for complicated urinary tract infection, complicated intra-abdominal infection, and hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia.

We aim to study the prevalence and the clinical implications of acute myocardial injury (MIN) during SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in older patients. The method includes a longitudinal observational study with all consecutive adult patients admitted to a COVID-19 unit between March-April 2020.

Data from assays of CZA combinations, however, are scarce. The objective of our study was to perform a time-kill analysis of the effectiveness of CZA alone and in combination with other antibiotics against a collection of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) P.

The outbreak affected healthcare workers (HCWs) and kidney disease patients including transplant patients and those requiring maintenance hemodialysis.
Methods: The outbreak investigation and report were conducted in accordance with the Orion statement guidelines.
Background: Zinc is an essential micronutrient that impacts host-pathogen interplay at infection. Zinc balances immune responses, and also has a proven direct antiviral action against some viruses. Importantly, zinc deficiency (ZD) is a common condition in elderly and individuals with chronic diseases, two groups with an increased risk for severe severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outcomes.
