This article presents a comprehensive review of studies indicating a correlation between indoor radon exposure and the higher probability of occurrence of health problems in exposed populations.

Hepatic amyloidosis is a rare form of presentation that ranges from mild hepatomegaly and altered liver biochemical tests to acute liver failure. The aims of this study were to evaluate the prevalence of amyloidosis in patients undergoing liver biopsy and describe its main clinical characteristics and prognostic impact.

Methods: We used South Carolina's Medicaid claims data 2000 to 2018 for pediatric limb fracture cases (under age 19) discharged from the emergency department. The key independent variable was the child's race/ethnicity.

Variants in these genes may carry a prognostic impact in breast cancer.

Wilson disease in Northern Portugal: a long-term follow-up study.

Introduction: Wilson disease is an autosomal recessive disease of liver copper metabolism with predominant hepatic and neurological manifestations. Long-term data on the clinical follow-up and treatment efficacy are limited due to the low frequency of the disease. We evaluated a large cohort of Wilson disease patients from Northern Portugal during a 20-year follow-up period.

Alkali-activated mortars and concretes have been gaining increased attention due to their potential for providing a more sustainable alternative to traditional ordinary Portland cement mixtures. In addition, the inclusion of high volumes of recycled materials in these traditional mortars and concretes has been shown to be particularly challenging. The compositions of the mixtures present in this paper were designed to make use of a hybrid alkali-activation model, as they were mostly composed of class F fly ash and calcium-rich precursors, namely, ordinary Portland cement and calcium hydroxide.

Embryonic pluripotent cells also accumulate mutations during early development, but how this relates to the mutation burden in iPSCs remains unknown. Here, we directly compared the mutation burden of cultured iPSCs with their isogenic embryonic cells during human embryogenesis.

The Cantabrian capercaillie: A population on the edge.

The capercaillie Tetrao urogallus - the world's largest grouse- is a circumboreal forest species, which only two remaining populations in Spain: one in the Cantabrian mountains in the west and the other in the Pyrenees further east. Both have shown severe declines, especially in the Cantabrian population, which has recently been classified as "Critically Endangered". To develop management plans, information on demographic parameters is necessary to understand and forecast population dynamics.

Objectives: To investigate the feasibility of delivering a low-dose mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) intervention among prediabetes/diabetes patients in a clinical setting.

Design And Setting: This was a single-arm, mixed methods, feasibility study among prediabetes/diabetes patients at a healthcare center in United States.

Intervention: The low-dose MBSR intervention was delivered in group format over 4 waves and each wave comprised 8-10 h of 8 sessions over 6-8 weeks.

Natural Products Against COVID-19 Inflammation: A Mini-Review.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) is a virus whose genetic material is positive single-stranded RNA, being responsible for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID- 19), an infection that compromises the lungs and consequently the respiratory capacity of the infected individual, according to the WHO in November 2021, 249,743,428 cases were confirmed, of which 5,047,652 individuals died due to complications resulting from the infection caused by SARSCOV- 2. As the infection progresses, the individual may experience loss of smell and taste, as well as breathing difficulties, severe respiratory failure, multiple organ failure, and death. Due to this new epidemiological agent in March 2020 it was announced by the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO) a pandemic status, and with that, many research groups are looking for new therapeutic alternatives through synthetic and natural bioactives.

Correlation Between Drinking Water and Iodine Status: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Iodine is a micronutrient essential for maintaining normal body functioning, and the consumption depends on the distribution in the environment, and insufficient or excessive intake results in thyroid dysfunction. The purpose of this review was to evaluate the correlation between iodine concentration in drinking water and the iodine status of the population. The systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines and was registered at the International Prospective Register of Ongoing Systematic Reviews (CRD42019128308).

"Hepatotoxicity in inflammatory bowel disease: mesalazine, the forgotten drug".

Introduction: Mesalazine is a widely prescribed drug, used for the treatment of ulcerative colitis to both induce and maintain remissions in disease. Mesalazine therapy has been associated with a low rate of serum enzyme elevations and a with rare instances of clinically apparent acute liver injury.

Case Presentation: A 51-year-old Caucasian woman with ulcerative colitis was treated with mesalazine.

Advances and challenges of the Back Home Program as a deinstitutionalization strategy: an integrative review.

The aim of the current article is to identify scientific evidence about advances, possibilities, and challenges of using the Back Home Program (BHP) to deinstitutionalize former psychiatric hospitalization patients. This study is an integrative review based on the scientific literature available in the Virtual Health Library and the PubMed portal, as well as in the Cinahl, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Scopus, and PsycINFO databases. The analysis of all nine selected studies was based on the interpretation of discursive practices observed in public domain materials.

Vascularization Approaches in Tissue Engineering: Recent Developments on Evaluation Tests and Modulation.

This review focuses on vascularization and strategies involved in its evaluation and modulation. Clinical issues associated with engineered tissues of an atomically relevant size that require a vascular network to supply their cells with nutrients and oxygen are analyzed in terms of vascular network formation within scaffolds, which can be produced from varying biomaterials, with the capability of connecting to the vasculature of the patient. Developing angiogenesis techniques and monitoring of angiogenesis development as well as how these methods can be further utilized to tailor vascularization within large tissue engineered constructs are also discussed.
