Adenosine operates a modulation system fine-tuning the efficiency of synaptic transmission and plasticity through A and A receptors (AR, AR), respectively. Supramaximal activation of AR can block hippocampal synaptic transmission, and the tonic engagement of AR-mediated inhibition is increased with increased frequency of nerve stimulation. This is compatible with an activity-dependent increase in extracellular adenosine in hippocampal excitatory synapses, which can reach levels sufficient to block synaptic transmission.

The present study overcomes the limited empirical evidence on the association between well-being and school engagement in times of adversity by exploiting available data from two large and comparable samples of eighth graders; one obtained prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and the second obtained during the pandemic. Results suggest that adolescents were less engaged with their learning context during the pandemic, as well as lower in positive and negative affect, but slightly more satisfied with life. Through SEM we found a stronger positive association between positive affect and school engagement in the COVID-19 group compared with the pre-COVID-19 group.

Brugada syndrome (BrS) is a congenital channelopathy associated with an increased risk of malignant ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death in individuals without any structural cardiopathy. Brugada phenocopies (BrPs) are clinical entities that present electrocardiographic patterns similar to those of BrS that are elicited only under transitory pathophysiological conditions, with normalization of the ECG pattern after the resolution of those conditions. We present a rare case of BrP due to intracranial hemorrhage.
