This article considers the processes of light propagation and scattering in biological tissues. The results obtained made it possible to estimate basic signal parameters and their dependence on various optical parameters with respect to the laser Doppler flowmeter and laser Doppler microscope. We also developed a new method to determine the indicatrix asymmetry of single and multiple light scattering by a suspension of oriented spheroidal particles that simulated erythrocytes in a shear flow.

New analytical method is used to estimate hydrodynamic forces produced by dolphin's flukes. A mathematical model is proposed that describes dolphin's flukes as a flat rigid rectangular wing whose pitch axis location varies, heaving and pitching amplitudes are sufficiently large, and the phase angle shift for the combined oscillations can change arbitrarily. The dolphin's flukes kinematic parameters are obtained and used to estimate hydrodynamic forces.

An evaluation of the end results of combined treatment for osteogenic sarcoma by standard chemoradiotherapy (n = 66) and novel thermochemical therapy (n = 108) using local ultrasound hyperthermia (total number--174) demonstrated their dependence on the temperature range in target tumor tissues. Use of subhypertemperatures of 39--41-45 deg.C (TTD--36 Gy) did not improve the results of treatment.

The effect of mineral particulate matter on the population of bacterioplankton, its aggregation, and productive characteristics was studied in model experiments with different concentrations of particulate kaolin and the same concentration of organic substance (sodium humate). It was found that the presence of mineral particulate matter stimulated the aggregation of bacterioplankton, improved bacterial production, and extended the productive period of bacterioplankton. The integral specific production of aggregated bacterioplankton was higher than that of free-swimming bacterioplankton.

The functional characteristics of bacterioplankton have been studied with reference to its aggregation in water bodies of different types. Several methods were used for calculation of the total numbers of bacteria and proportion of aggregated cells. Analysis of the experimental data has shown a relationship between the functional characteristics of bacterioplankton, such as bacterial production, destruction of organic matter, and energy coefficient, and the proportion of aggregated bacteria.

The basic mechanisms describing radiation scattered by large optically soft spheres are presented in this paper. The contributions of different components of geometrical optics to formation of the integral indicatrix have been estimated. The asymptotic equations for the asymmetry coefficient have been obtained.

The dependence of the functional characteristics of bacterioplankton from the loess of Lake Khanka on the pore size of filtering materials was investigated. Soluble organic matter (SOM), bacteria, and bacterial consumers adsorbed on particles suspended in the lake water were found to filter differently depending on the pore size of the filtering material. Filters with pore size 4.

An analysis of the data on the treatment of 91 cases of advanced cancer of the larynx showed that local UHF-hyperthermotherapy is more efficient than the SHF one as a component of radiotherapy. Use of the latter procedure was followed by a higher rate of late-onset radiation injuries. Moreover, combined application of hyper-fractionated irradiation and UHF-hyperthermotherapy involved practically no grave complications while 5-year survival increased.

Some characteristics of bacterioplankton--generation time, daily (P) and specific (P/B) bacterioplankton production, and bacterial metabolic coefficient K2--in the loess-containing Lake Khanka were determined using five modifications of the bacterial-count procedure with the fluorescent dyes fluorescamin and erythrosin. Experiments showed that the organomineral complex (OMC) in this lake is broken down by chemoorganoheterotrophic bacteria. The increase in the loess content of the lake water intensified bacterial growth and the cycles of potassium, silicon, and other biogenic elements.

We analyze the relation between spherical particle parameters (size parameter ? and relative refractive index m ) and light-scattering indicatrix parameters (fringe pitch and visibility) for ?and m ranging from 7 to 88 and from 1.025 to 1.2, respectively.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of RF-hyperthermia and regional intraarterial hyperglycemia as adjuvant radiotherapy vs conventional radiotherapy of advanced head and neck cancers. Altogether 115 patients with advanced T3-T-4 carcinoma of the tongue, oral cavity and oropharynx underwent external radiotherapy (Co-60). An RF capacitative heating device operating at 40.

The paper is devoted to comparative estimation of radiation and combined therapy of laryngeal cancer patients using combined radiomodification including local hyperthermia, total hyperthermia, chemotherapy and a method of dynamic dose fractionation. Complete and significant tumor regression at a dose of 32 Gy was noted in the study group (77 patients) and in the control group (64%). Radiotherapy against a background of combined radiomodification tends to increase the 3-year survival up to 86% as compared to 66.

In this article a practical case is described when gunshot directions and position of a victim's body at the moment of each shot were determined by natural simulation using an LG-78 laser (made in the form of a gun).

Potentiation of the effect of radiation and combined treatment of laryngeal cancer by local hyperthermia was studied in 43 patients. In 51 cases of the control group (radiotherapy), conventionally-dynamic fractionation of dose was used. At 32 Gy, complete or partial regression of tumor was observed in 72.

The extent of metastatic spread and the life span depend on the level of nonspecific resistance of the body of patients with osteogenic sarcoma. Chemoradiation therapy reduces antitumoral resistance of patients, and the use of local UHF hyperthermia prevents this negative effect of complex treatment.
