Rationale: Spermatic cord myxomas are rare benign tumors, typically characterized by the production of mucopolysaccharides. These tumors are infrequently found in the urinary system, making this case noteworthy.

Patient Concerns: A 55-year-old male presented with a painless swelling on the right side of his scrotum, which had persisted for over 3 months.

Rationale: Rare side effects of acute epididymitis include testicular infarction and ischemia. Distinguishing them from testicular torsion is challenging, both clinically and radiologically. However, only a few such cases have been reported to date.

Objective: To assess the clinical outcome of 1470 nm diode laser enucleation of the prostate (DiLEP) vs. bipolar transurethral enucleation of prostate (TUEP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Methods: One hundred and fifty-seven patients were retrospectively involved in this study.

Rationale: Zinner syndrome (ZS) is a rare congenital malformation of the urogenital tract that is associated with seminal vesicle cysts, ejaculatory duct obstruction, and ipsilateral renal agenesis. This unique condition was first reported by Zinner (1914). ZS is caused by malformation of the distal mesonephric duct during embryogenesis.

Objective: The purpose of the current study was to assess the effectiveness of semirigid ureterorenoscopy (URS) as first-line therapy for early childhood patients with <20 mm stones in the pelvic, middle, or upper calices.

Methods: In all, 61 pediatric kidney stone patients who had flexible ureteroscopy (fURS) between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2019, were included in this study. Before fURS, semirigid URS employed the UreTron or holmium: YAG (Ho : YAG) laser was conducted.

Rationale: A supernumerary kidney is an extremely rare renal anomaly. Currently, <100 cases are reported in the literature. There are only 2 right unilateral supernumerary kidneys reported in the literature thus far, but no confirmed cases of urothelial carcinoma in supernumerary kidneys.

Prostate cancer gene expression marker 1 (PCGEM1) is a prostate‑specific gene overexpressed in prostate cancer cells that promotes cell proliferation. To study the molecular mechanism of PCGEM1 function in hormone‑refractory prostate cancer, the interaction between myocyte enhancer factor 2 (MEF2) and PCGEM1 was assessed by a luciferase reporter assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay. In addition, the underlying mechanism of PCGEM1 regulating expression of microRNA (miR)‑148a in PC3 prostate cancer cells was evaluated.

Adenocarcinoma of prostate with mucinous differentiation arising in the male urethra is extremely rare, with only 21 cases reported in the previous literature. A diagnosis of mucin-producing urothelial carcinoma of the prostate is based on the pathology, immunohistochemistry, and clinical examination by excluding the secondary adenocarcinoma of the prostate. We present a case of unexpected mucinous urothelial carcinoma of prostate with co-existing inverted papilloma of bladder in a 57-year-old man.

Objectives: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of LBO laser en bloc resection compared with transurethral electroresection (TURBT) for the treatment of primary non-muscle-invasive bladder tumors.

Methods: From September 2010 to February 2012, a prospective, nonrandomized two-center trial was performed. A total of 158 patients (83 underwent laser resection and 75 TURBT) were included in the present study.

AICAR (5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide riboside or acadesine) is an AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) agonist, which induces cytotoxic effect to several cancer cells. Its potential activity in prostate cancer cells and the underlying signaling mechanisms have not been extensively studied. Here, we showed that AICAR primarily induced programmed necrosis, but not apoptosis, in prostate cancer cells (LNCaP, PC-3 and PC-82 lines).

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of plasmakinetic enucleation of the prostate (PKEP) for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) compared with 160-W lithium triboride laser photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP). From February 2011 to July 2012, a prospective nonrandomized study was performed. One-hundred one patients underwent PKEP, and 110 underwent PVP.

Golgi phosphoprotein 3 (GOLPH3) has recently been implicated as an oncogene involved in the development of carcinoma in a number of organs. The expression of GOLPH3 in prostate cancer (PCa) tissues was investigated in the present study. Human PC-3 and LNCaP PCa cell lines were analyzed in order to assess whether silencing of GOLPH3 expression affects cell vitality, migration and invasion, in vitro.

Article Synopsis
  • Prostate cancer is a major cause of death in men, highlighting the need for new treatment options; berberine shows promise as a potent anti-prostate cancer agent.
  • The study revealed that berberine triggers programmed necrosis more significantly than apoptosis in prostate cancer cells, with mitochondrial protein cyclophilin-D (Cyp-D) playing a crucial role in necrosis.
  • The research also found that berberine increases reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to P53 moving to the mitochondria, interacting with Cyp-D, and causing cell necrosis, establishing a link between berberine's effects and mitochondrial function.

Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of 160-W lithium triboride laser photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) for the surgical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia compared with transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).

Methods: From July 2010 to January 2011, a prospective nonrandomized study was performed. A total of 108 patients (57 underwent PVP and 51 TURP) were included in the present study.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence and clinical features of acute kidney injury (AKI) secondary to ureteral calculi. Between February 2002 and December 2009, the prevalence of AKI was 0.72% in our series of 2,073 cases of ureteral stones.
