The new specific hydrolysis of histidine-containing peptides promoted by cis-[Pt(en)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) was investigated by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (NMR). MS determination demonstrated that cis-[Pt(en)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) anchors to AcGHG with the stoichiometry of either 1:1 or 2:1 (Pt/peptide), but only with 1:1 stoichoimetry to AcGHL. Cis-[Pt(en)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) is able to promote the cleavage of the first downstream peptide bond from histidine at 60 degrees C and pH 2.

The full ensemble of possible conformations, 324 conformations for serine, 108 for serineH(+), 162 for serine(-) and 54 for serine(2-), were first surveyed at B3LYP/6-31G level, and then the obtained unique conformations were further refined at B3LYP/6-311+G level. From full optimizations, 74 unique conformations for seine, 14 for serineH(+), 11 for serine(-), and 4 for serine(2-) were located, and their relative energies were also determined at B3LYP/6-311+G level.

The vibrational spectra of MM'2X8(2-) and trans-MM'2S6O2(2-) (M = Ni(II), Pd(II), Pt(II); M' = Mo, W; X = O, S) are calculated using ab initio method at RHF/LanL2DZ level. The hydroxo-group-bridged one, [Pd2(mu-OH)([18]aneN6)]3+, is a dominant species, whose crystal structure has been obtained. The crystal structure of [Pd2(mu-OH)([18]aneN6)](ClO4)3 shows that each Pd(II) ion in the dinuclear complex is tetra-coordinated by three nitrogen atoms and one hydroxo group bridge in a distorted square configuration.

The composition of Ru(II)-containing peptides was precisely determined by ESI-MS, zoom scan and simulation of isotope distribution patterns. MS/MS analysis shows that, in sulfur-containing peptides, the Ru(II) complex prefers to anchor to a carboxyl group, although some other potential binding sites of thiol, thioether and N-terminal amino groups present in these peptides, and in oxidized insulin B chain, Ru(II) first anchors to His10, then either to the hydroxyl group of Thr27 or to the carboxyl group of Ala30.

In the centrosymmetric title complex, [Mn(C(7)H(8)N(2)O(2))(4)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(2), the Mn(II) ion is in an octahedral environment, with the equatorial plane being defined by the O atoms of four monodentate carboxylate groups, and the octahedron being completed by two trans-coordinated water molecules. There are intramolecular hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water molecules and the non-coordinated O atoms of the carboxylate groups. Hydrogen bonds between the amino groups and the carboxylate groups of neighbouring molecules generate a layered hydrogen-bonded network.
