Developing solvents with balanced physicochemical properties for high-voltage cathodes and lithium metal anodes is crucial for a sustainable and intelligent future. Herein, we report fully methylated tetramethyl-1,3-dimethoxydisiloxane (TMMS) as a single solvent for lithium metal batteries. We demonstrate that the fully methylated structure and Si-O bonds within TMMS can effectively elevate the dehydrogenation energy barrier, migrating the oxidation decomposition of the electrolyte.

Withaferin A (WA), a natural product used in traditional medicine, has recently garnered attention because of its diverse pharmacological effects. However, the direct targets responsible for these effects remain elusive. The discovery of targets is usually serendipitous and research has predominantly concentrated on covalent interactions, overlooking non-covalent targets.

All-solid-state polymer electrolytes are promising for lithium batteries, but Li transport in these electrolytes relies on amorphous chain segment movement, leading to low Li mobility and poor mechanical strength. Here we propose a novel Li transport mechanism mediated by PEO:LiBF nanocrystals (NCPB) with the aggregate (AGG) anionic structure, which enables a change from amorphous to crystalline phase dominated ion transport in all-solid-state PEO/LiBF electrolyte. Experiments and simulations reveal that the interaction between Li and F in NCPB with AGG anionic structure simultaneously restricts anion transport and reorients anions within the free volume of NCPB, resulting in a three-coordination intermediate to facilitate Li transport.

Sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) is recognized as a promising organic cathode for long-lifespan lithium metal batteries. Nevertheless, the irreversible cleavage/formation of multiple sulfur-sulfur (S-S) bonds of SPAN within conventional ether-based electrolytes results in loss of active S species, severe capacity fading and shuttle effects. Herein, we propose a new electrolyte based on dipropyl ether (PE) solvent for Li-SPAN batteries.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study presents an innovative method for creating spinel nanocrystals (NCs) with precise structural composition and cation distribution, crucial for enhancing their catalytic performance in energy applications.
  • - This approach uses controlled nucleation and aggregation processes to produce single-nanometer CoMnO spinel NCs, resulting in a structure that optimizes oxygen intermediate adsorption for improved efficiency in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR).
  • - The resulting spinel NCs demonstrate exceptional performance, achieving a half-wave potential of 0.88 V in ORR and a power density of 170.9 mW cm in zinc-air batteries, significantly outperforming traditional materials, which underscores the importance of their tailored design for future electrocatalysts and

Article Synopsis
  • * The special chelating structures enhance the stability of the EEI, prevent electrolyte decomposition, and help maintain the structural integrity of the cathode by preventing transition metal dissolution.
  • * Ultimately, the research shows that the new electrolyte supports excellent lithium plating/stripping and maintains high performance, achieving 90% capacity retention in the LiNiCoMnO (NCM811) cathode after 300 cycles and 70% capacity

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with conventional carbonate-based electrolytes suffer from safety concerns in large-scale applications. Phosphates feature high flame retardancy but are incompatible with graphite anode due to their inability to form a passivated solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). Herein, we report a monofluorinated co-solvent, diethyl fluoridophosphate (DEFP), featuring a unique P-F bond that allows a trade-off between safety and electrochemical performance in LIBs.

Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is the bottleneck of metal-air batteries and fuel cells. Strain regulation can change the geometry and adjust the surface charge distribution of catalysts, which is a powerful strategy to optimize the ORR activity. The introduction of controlled strain to the material is still difficult to achieve.

A zinc-infiltration process was adopted to prepare silver-doped copper nanosheet arrays. The larger atomic radius of Ag introduces tensile stress, which lowers the electron density at the s-orbitals of Cu atoms and improves the adsorption capability for hydrogen atoms. As a catalyst for hydrogen evolution, these silver doped copper nanosheet arrays achieved a low overpotential of 103 mV at 10 mA cm in 1 M KOH, which is 604 mV lower than that of pure copper foil.

Main-group (s- and p-block) metals are generally regarded as catalytically inactive due to the delocalized s/p-band. Herein, we successfully synthesized a p-block antimony single-atom catalyst (Sb SAC) with the Sb-N configuration for efficient catalysis of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The obtained Sb SAC exhibits superior ORR activity with a half-wave potential of 0.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is considered an autoimmune disease, which can be attenuated by modulation of immune pathway from Th1- to Th2-type through vaccination. WH1fungin surfactin is a Bacillus-produced natural immunomodulator. NOD mice were orally treated with 5mg/kg or 25mg/kg WH1fungin once a week for total 4 weeks.

Metabolic flux distributions of recombinant Escherichia coli BL21 expressing human-like collagen were determined by means of a stoichiometric network and metabolic balancing. At the batch growth stage, the fluxes of the pentose phosphate pathway were higher than the fluxes of the fed-batch growth phase and the production stage. After the temperature was increased, there was a substantially elevated energy demand for synthesizing human-like collagen and heat-shock proteins, which resulted in changes in metabolic fluxes.
