Background: Hepatectomy is the primary treatment for regional hepatolithiasis, but recurrence rates range from 10 to 20%, often necessitating repeat surgery. Although laparoscopic hepatectomy has been widely adopted for recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma, its use in recurrent hepatolithiasis remains limited due to technical challenges, including severe adhesions, anatomical distortions, and increased risks of complications. No large-scale study has compared laparoscopic and open repeat hepatectomy for recurrent regional hepatolithiasis.

Evaluating the predictive value of clinical models for HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma: A meta-analysis.

Objectives: Chronic viral hepatitis B (CHB) is a prevalent liver disease with primary hepatic carcinoma (HCC) as a severe complication. Clinical prediction models have gained attention for predicting HBV-related HCC (HBV-HCC). This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of existing models for HBV-HCC through meta-analysis.

DP-CLAM: A weakly supervised benign-malignant classification study based on dual-angle scanning ultrasound images of thyroid nodules.

In this paper, a two-stage task weakly supervised learning algorithm is proposed. It accurately achieved patient-level classification task of benign and malignant thyroid nodules based on ultrasound images from two scanning angles: long axis and short axis of the thyroid site. In the first stage, 68,208 ultrasound scanning images of 588 patients are used to train the underlying classification model.

Our study aimed to elucidate the impact of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor on left ventricular systolic function using global longitudinal strain in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and to assess its protective effect depending on disease duration. Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients treated at our institute were included. According to whether sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor was used in drug treatment, the patients were divided into SGLT2i group and control group, and propensity score matching was performed.

Fluorofenidone mitigates liver fibrosis through GSK-3β modulation and hepatocyte protection in a 3D tissue-engineered model.

Liver fibrosis, a critical stage in chronic liver disease progression, presents a significant global health challenge. This study investigates the antifibrotic and hepatoprotective properties of fluorofenidone (AKF-PD) using a 3D tissue-engineered model. A 3D in vitro liver fibrosis model was developed using decellularized rat liver scaffolds seeded with hepatocytes, hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), and sinusoidal endothelial cells to replicate the multicellular liver microenvironment.

Diet-driven diversity of antibiotic resistance genes in wild bats: implications for public health.

Wild bats may serve as reservoirs for antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and antibiotic-resistant bacteria, potentially contributing to antibiotic resistance and pathogen transmission. However, current assessments of bats' antibiotic resistance potential are limited to culture-dependent bacterial snapshots. In this study, we present metagenomic evidence supporting a strong association between diet, gut microbiota, and the resistome, highlighting bats as significant vectors for ARG propagation.

Massively parallel Hong-Ou-Mandel interference based on independent soliton microcombs.

Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interference is the foundation of quantum optics to test the degree of indistinguishability of two incoming photons, playing a key role in quantum communication, sensing, and photonic quantum computing. Realizing high-visibility HOM interference with massively parallel optical channels is challenging due to the lack of available natural optical references for aligning independent arrayed laser pairs. Here, we demonstrate 50 parallel comb-teeth pairs of continuous-wave weak coherent photons HOM interference using two independently frequency post-aligned soliton microcombs (SMCs), achieving an average fringe visibility over 46%.

Background: Controversy continues over the application of wedge resection and segmentectomy for the early stage of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without affecting long-term survival. This study aimed to investigate the acceptability of wedge resection as an alternative to segmentectomy in patients with T1aN0M0 NSCLC with data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

Methods: A total of 742 patients with pT1aN0M0 NSCLC from the SEER database were finally involved in this study, including 130 patients in the segmentectomy group and 612 patients in the wedge resection group.

Background: Fear of missing out (FoMO) is a new type of anxiety disorder in the context of the Internet, which has a negative effects on the physical and mental health and behavior of college students, such as Internet addiction, non-adaptive socializing, and negative emotions. In order to investigate the effect of relative deprivation (RD) on FoMO of college students, this study conducted a moderated mediation model to examine the relationship between RD, FoMO, self-regulatory fatigue (SRF), and personal belief in a just world (BJW).
