Objective: To quantify the costs of hypertension diagnosis and treatment in Australia, particularly in primary care, including general practices and pharmacies.
Study Design: Economic analysis; analysis of Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) data.
Setting: Australia, 2012-22.
Background: Microscopic colitis (MC) is a common cause of chronic diarrhea, predominantly among older adults. Emerging evidence suggests that perturbations of gut microbiome and metabolome may play an important role in MC pathogenesis.
Objective: To comprehensively characterize alterations of the gut microbial and metabolic composition in MC.
Non-human-associated microbial communities play important biological roles, but they remain less understood than human-associated communities. Here, we assess the impact of key environmental sample properties on a variety of state-of-the-art metagenomic analysis methods. In simulated datasets, all methods performed similarly at high taxonomic ranks, but newer marker-based methods incorporating metagenomic assembled genomes outperformed others at lower taxonomic levels.

However, epidemiological studies exploring the associations between gallstone diseases and subsequent IBD risk have been limited.
Methods: This is a combined analysis of 3 prospective cohort studies (Nurses' Health Study, Nurses' Health Study II, and UK Biobank) and replicated in a case-control study (Chinese IBD Etiology Study).
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is primarily attributed to the abnormal upregulation of hepatic lipogenesis, which is especially caused by the overactivation of the liver X receptor/sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c (LXR/SREBP-1c) pathway in hepatocytes. In this study, we report the rational design and synthesis of a novel series of squaramides via bioisosteric replacement, which was evaluated for its inhibitory activity on the LXR/SREBP-1c pathway using dual cell-based assays. Compound was found to significantly downregulate LXR, SREBP-1c, and their target genes associated with lipogenesis.

Methods: Leveraging 307 men and 212 women with stool metagenomes and dietary data, we characterized and validated a sex-specific dietary pattern associated with the CRC-related gut microbial signature (CRC Microbial Dietary Score [CMDS]). We evaluated the associations of CMDS with CRC risk according to Fusobacterium nucleatum, pksEscherichia coli, and enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis status in tumor tissue using Cox proportional hazards regression in the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (1986-2018), Nurses' Health Study (1984-2020), and Nurses' Health Study II (1991-2019).
Importance: Aspirin reduces the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). Identifying individuals more likely to benefit from regular aspirin use for CRC prevention is a high priority.
Objective: To assess whether aspirin use is associated with the risk of CRC across different lifestyle risk factors.
A copper-catalyzed alkyne-selective hydroboration of 1,3-enynes is disclosed, providing access to the previously elusive 2-boryl-1,3-dienes. Using CuOAc, Xantphos, and HBpin, Bpin was installed on the internal carbon of a series of symmetric and nonsymmetric 1,3-enynes, affording products with excellent : selectivity. The utility of the 2-boryl-1,3-diene products was demonstrated by transformation to useful functional groups.

The gut microbiome is a key player in the diet-health axis, but while its bacterial fraction is widely studied, the role of micro-eukaryotes, including Blastocystis, is underexplored. We performed a global-scale analysis on 56,989 metagenomes and showed that human Blastocystis exhibits distinct prevalence patterns linked to geography, lifestyle, and dietary habits.

Gallstone disease is highly prevalent and constitutes a significant burden to the United States health system but remains understudied.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the association between UPF consumption and incident gallstone disease risk.
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were loaded on deprotonated cellulose nanocrystals (CNCd) and incorporated into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to develop novel active food packaging films. The AgNPs were fabricated using the liquid phase chemical reduction method using the sodium borohydride reductant of AgNO. The analysis using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) showed that the CNCd surface had a homogeneous distribution of AgNPs with a diameter of about 100 nm.

The proposed algorithm is numerically demonstrated to achieve significant (up to 3.7 dB for a four-tone pump-phase modulation scheme) Q-factor performance improvement over conventional DSP in 16 quadrature-amplitude modulation signal transmission.

The incidence of Os odontoideum is higher in patients with Down syndrome. Similar to odontoid fractures, atlantoaxial dislocation in patients with Os odontoideum can result in neurological deficits, disability, and even mortality.

By leveraging stool collected within a large prospective cohort, we performed shotgun metagenomic sequencing and untargeted metabolomics profiling among 121 women diagnosed with diverticulitis requiring antibiotics or hospitalizations (cases), matched to 121 women without diverticulitis (controls) according to age and race. Overall microbial community structure and metabolomic profiles differed in diverticulitis cases compared to controls, including enrichment of pro-inflammatory Ruminococcus gnavus, 1,7-dimethyluric acid, and histidine-related metabolites, and depletion of butyrate-producing bacteria and anti-inflammatory ceramides.

This study aimed to examine the preferences for childbirth delivery modes and pain relief methods and factors related to these preferences among pregnant women in Vietnam.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey on pregnant women was conducted in two obstetrics hospitals in Vietnam.
Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy improves outcomes in several cancers. Unfortunately, many patients experience grade 3-4 treatment-related adverse events, including gastrointestinal (GI) toxicities which are common. These GI immune-related adverse events (irAEs) induced by ICIs present significant clinical challenges, require prompt intervention, and result in treatment delays or discontinuations.

Using formic/peroxyformic acid at atmospheric pressure, cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were isolated from rice husk (RH) in this study. This method was an excellent way to get rid of lignin and hemicelluloses from RH.

However, updated evidence about this issue in Vietnam has not yet been provided. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the gender preferences among pregnant women and identify associated factors of such preferences.

These changes have exacerbated inequities in accessing reproductive health services. This study examines potential disparities in willingness to pay for reproductive health services among adults in a rural district of Hanoi.
