Training and education of operating room nurses in robot-assisted surgery: a systematic review.

Background: With the introduction of robot-assisted surgery, the role and responsibility of the operating room nurses have been expanded. The surgical team for robotic-assisted surgery depends on the ability of the operating room nurses to operate and handle the robotic system before, during, and after procedures. However, operating room nurses must acquire the necessary competencies for robotic-assisted surgery.

T cells with increased responsiveness cause obesity in mice without diet intervention.

Obesity is a complex multicausal disease that can cause morbidity and mortality, and there is need for improved knowledge on the underlying mechanisms. Using a mouse model of increased T cell responsiveness, we show that development of obesity can be driven by immune cells. This was confirmed with bone marrow transplantation and adoptive T cell transfer to several recipient mouse models.

Why Bindschedler's Green is redder than Michler's Hydrol Blue.

We offer a new physical interpretation of the color shift between diarylmethane dyes and their azomethine analogues. We use an isolobal analogy between state-averaged complete active space self-consistent field solutions for corresponding methines and azomethines to show that the shift contains a significant contribution from configuration interaction between a methine-like ππ* excitation and an nπ* excitation out of the azomethine lone pair. The latter does not exist in the corresponding methine systems.

Cognitive and clinical predictors of functional capacity in patients with first episode schizophrenia.

Background: The predictors of functional capacity in first episode schizophrenia among seven separable cognitive domains and clinical variables are unknown.

Aim: To investigate predictors of functional capacity in first episode schizophrenia and the associations between functional capacity and measures of real-world functioning.

Methods: Socio-demographic, clinical, and cognitive measures from a sample of patients with first episode schizophrenia spectrum disorders aged 18-34years (N=117) were examined at baseline, 4-month follow-up, and 10-month follow-up and used to predict concurrent and longitudinal functional capacity.

Cognitive training plus a comprehensive psychosocial programme (OPUS) versus the comprehensive psychosocial programme alone for patients with first-episode schizophrenia (the NEUROCOM trial): a study protocol for a centrally randomised, observer-blinded multi-centre clinical trial.

Background: Up to 85% of patients with schizophrenia demonstrate cognitive dysfunction in at least one domain. Cognitive dysfunction plays a major role in functional outcome. It is hypothesized that addition of cognitive training to a comprehensive psychosocial programme (OPUS) enhances both cognitive and everyday functional capacity of patients more than the comprehensive psychosocial programme alone.

MicroRNAs show mutually exclusive expression patterns in the brain of adult male rats.

Background: The brain is a major site of microRNA (miRNA) gene expression, but the spatial expression patterns of miRNAs within the brain have not yet been fully covered.

Methodology/principal Findings: We have characterized the regional expression profiles of miRNAs in five distinct regions of the adult rat brain: amygdala, cerebellum, hippocampus, hypothalamus and substantia nigra. Microarray profiling uncovered 48 miRNAs displaying more than three-fold enrichment between two or more brain regions.

Emissions of the greenhouse gas methane from Arctic wetlands have been studied extensively, though little is known about the ecology and community structure of methanogenic archaea that catalyze the methane production. As part of a project addressing microbial transformations of methane in Arctic wetlands, we studied archaeal communities in two wetlands (Solvatnet and Stuphallet) at Spitsbergen, Norway (78 degrees N) during two summer seasons. Directly extracted peat community DNA and enrichment cultures of methanogenic archaea were analyzed by nested PCR combined with denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and subsequent sequencing of 16S rRNA gene fragments.

The flagellum protein flagellin of Listeria monocytogenes is encoded by the flaA gene. Immediately downstream of flaA, two genes, cheY and cheA, encoding products with homology to chemotaxis proteins of other bacteria, are located. Rat dorsal root ganglia neurons as a model for Listeria monocytogenes infections in culture.

Neurotropism of Listeria monocytogenes was studied in rat dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and hippocampal neurons in culture. Using a system in which the DRG neurons can grow relatively free from other cells, it was observed that such DRG neurons, in contrast to hippocampal neurons, can be effectively infected by L. monocytogenes.

Problems with radical corrective surgery after ascending aorta to right pulmonary artery shunt (Waterston's anastomosis) for cyanotic congenital heart disease.

Forty-five patients with Fallot's tetralogy or pulmonary atresia had total correction 2 to 6 years after palliative ascending aorta to right pulmonary artery anastomosis (Waterston's shunt). The operative mortality for total correction is increased in this group. Patients shown subsequently to have had a good anatomical correction died unexpectedly with high central pulmonary artery pressure, falling arterial PO2, low cardiac output, and progressive acidosis.
