Aims: Left ventricular (LV) contractility during noncomplicated pregnancy has been previously investigated by two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2D-STE), with conflicting results. Chest abnormalities might affect myocardial strain parameters, yet this issue has not been previously investigated during pregnancy. We evaluated the influence of chest conformation on myocardial strain parameters in healthy pregnant women.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included all consecutive patients who underwent exercise stress echocardiography (ESE) for suspected CAD at our institution between February 2011 and September 2019. Modified Haller index (MHI; chest transverse diameter over the distance between sternum and spine) was assessed in all patients.
Background: Riboflavin/UV-A corneal cross-linking (CXL) for treating keratoconus and iatrogenic corneal ectasia has been well-established as first treatment option to stabilize corneal tissue biomechanical instability. Although the plethora of clinical studies has been published into the field, there is no systematic review assessing the type and frequency of adverse events after CXL.
Methods: A systemic literature review on clinical safety and adverse events after CXL in patients with keratoconus and corneal ectasia was performed using PubMed.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious global health problem. In Italy, to limit the infections, the government ordered lockdown from March 2020. This measure, designed to contain the virus, led to serious limitations on the daily life of the individuals it affected, and in particular in the limitation of physical exercise.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: The rapid diffusion of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Northern Italy led the Italian government to dictate a national lockdown from 12 March 2020 to 5 May 2020. The aim of this observational cohort study is to analyze the differences in the number of pediatric patients' admission to the Emergency Room (ER) and in the type and causes of injury.
Methods: The pediatric population during the pandemic was compared to a similar group of patients admitted to the ER in 2019.
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike protein binds to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor on vascular cells. As a consequence, patients with COVID-19 have an increased incidence of thromboembolic complications of the SARS-CoV-2 infection and subsequent endothelial cell damage with consequence of development of systemic vasculitis and diffuse intravascular coagulation. The present case describes a COVID-19 female patient with ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy, who presented with congestive heart failure and echocardiographic evidence of biventricular apical thrombi.

The short- and medium-term effects of the infection have been described, but the description of the long-term sequelae is lacking in the literature.
Methods: Patients healed from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from February 2020 to May 2020 were considered for inclusion in this study, regardless of the severity of the disease during the acute phase.
Muscular dystrophy (MD) is a group of neuromuscular diseases characterized by progressive muscle weakness due to various mutations in several genes involved in muscle structure and function. The age at onset, evolution and severity of the different forms of MD can vary and there is often impairment of motor function and activities of daily living. Although there have been important scientific advances with regard to pharmacological therapies for many forms of MD, rehabilitation management remains central to ensuring the patient's psychophysical well-being.

While clinical traits such as language ability have been shown to predict treatment outcome, whether or not and how information at the genomic level can predict treatment outcome is unknown. Leveraging a cohort of toddlers with autism who all received the same standardized intervention at a very young age and provided a blood sample, here we find that very early treatment engagement (i.

All the experimental tests were carried out using an ad hoc Poly Lactic Acid (PLLA) scaffold synthesized via Thermally Induced Phase Separation (TIPS). The bioreactor shows a tunable radial flow throughout the microporous matrix of the scaffold.

This relies on the sex bias in the diagnosis of autism (boys are approximately four times more likely to be diagnosed than girls) and findings of associations with fetal testosterone levels in traits and abilities related to autism. The current study aimed to examine the association between medical conditions and physical symptoms, which tend to manifest in adulthood, and autism in females.

Methods: A national registry, named DA-COVID-19 and involving 35 Italian dermatology units, was established in order to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the management of adult AD patients treated with systemic immunomodulant/immunosuppressive medications or phototherapy. Demographic and clinical data were obtained at different timepoints by teledermatology during COVID-19 pandemic, when regular visits were not allowed due to sanitary restrictions.
The present study was aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of BNT162b2 among HCWs of a university hospital while a recrudescence of pandemics was hitting the province, with a high rate of the B.1.1.

We have previously reported that chest abnormalities may affect parameters of cardiac contractility. The influence of chest shape on ESE results has never been previously investigated.

SC and RRB severity can markedly differ within and between individuals and may be underpinned by different neural circuitry and genetic mechanisms. Modeling SC-RRB balance could help identify how neural circuitry and genetic mechanisms map onto such phenotypic heterogeneity.

Here we present reval: a Python package that leverages stability-based relative clustering validation methods to select best clustering solutions as the ones that replicate, via supervised learning, on unseen subsets of data. The implementation of relative validation methods can contribute to the theory of clustering by fostering new approaches for the investigation of clustering results in different situations and for different data distributions.

In this study, we report data 8 years after surgery on weight loss, use of dietary supplements and deficit of micronutrients in a cohort of patients from five centres in central and northern Italy. The study group consisted of 52 subjects (age: 38.

The aim of this review is to evaluate which foods have a greater influence on blood or urinary trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) levels.
Methods: 391 language articles were screened, and 27 were analysed and summarized for this review, using the keywords "TMAO" AND "egg" OR "meat" OR "fish" OR "dairy" OR "vegetables" OR "fruit" OR "food" in December 2020.
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) represents a challenging pregnancy complication in which women present a state of glucose intolerance. GDM has been associated with various obstetric complications, such as polyhydramnios, preterm delivery, and increased cesarean delivery rate. Moreover, the fetus could suffer from congenital malformation, macrosomia, neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, and intrauterine death.

Oncolytic viruses, which have gained significant traction as a cancer therapy in recent decades, represent a promising option for treating histiocytic sarcomas through their replication and/or by modulating the tumor microenvironment. The live attenuated canine distemper virus (CDV) vaccine strain Onderstepoort represents an attractive candidate for oncolytic viral therapy.
