Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare form of non-LCH characterized by excessive accumulation of histiocytes in various tissues, leading to significant morbidity. The estimated prevalence of ECD is low, with fewer than 1000 cases reported globally, yet it presents considerable clinical challenges due to its heterogeneous manifestations, which include bone pain, cardiovascular complications, and neurological symptoms. Traditional treatment approaches, primarily involving corticosteroids and chemotherapy, have limitations, including inconsistent responses and significant side effects.

We propose a new perturbation theory framework that can be used to help with the projective solution of the Schrödinger equation for arbitrary wave functions. This Flexible Ansatz for -body Perturbation Theory (FANPT) is based on our previously proposed Flexible Ansatz for the -body Configuration Interaction (FANCI). We derive recursive FANPT expressions, including arbitrary orders in the perturbation hierarchy.

Electron pairs have an illustrious history in chemistry, from powerful concepts to understanding structural stability and reactive changes to the promise of serving as building blocks of quantitative descriptions of the electronic structure of complex molecules and materials. However, traditionally, two-electron wavefunctions (geminals) have not enjoyed the popularity and widespread use of the more standard single-particle methods. This has changed recently, with a renewed interest in the development of geminal wavefunctions as an alternative to describing strongly correlated phenomena.

There is great need for vaccines against tuberculosis (TB) more efficacious than the licensed BCG. Our goal was to identify new vaccine benchmarks by identifying immune responses that distinguish individuals able to eradicate the infection (TB-resisters) from individuals with latent infection (LTBI-participants). TB-resisters had higher frequencies of circulating CD8 glucose monomycolate (GMM)+ Granzyme-B+ T cells than LTBI-participants and higher proportions of polyfunctional conventional and nonconventional T cells expressing Granzyme-B and/or PD-1 after stimulation of blood mononuclear cells.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated how sex differences affect tuberculosis (TB) severity, drug exposure, and treatment outcomes, revealing that women generally have a lower mycobacterial burden and face fewer unfavorable treatment outcomes than men.
  • - Conducted in India with 1,541 participants, women had a significantly lower risk (35%) of treatment failure or recurrence, with specific factors like cavitary disease increasing risk for women, while men were impacted more by alcohol use and other health metrics.
  • - Women demonstrated higher drug exposure levels for isoniazid compared to men, emphasizing the importance of considering sex differences when developing strategies to enhance TB treatment effectiveness.

Biogenic amine neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine are essential for signaling in both central and peripheral nervous system. Their metabolism is a multistep pathway and any defect in this results in alteration in metabolites of serotonin 5-Hydroxyindole acetic acid (5HIAA) and dopamine homovanillic acid (HVA) and 3-O-Methyl Dopa (3-OMD). Estimation of these metabolites in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) assists in diagnosis of neurotransmitter defects.

Biogenic amine neurotransmitters metabolism is a multistep pathway with pterin and pyridoxal phosphate (vitamin B6) as cofactors. A defect in biogenic amine and cofactor metabolism and vesicular transporters result in a primary neurotransmitter disorders. These are a well-recognized groups of inherited disorders and often present with features overlapping with other neurological conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetes mellitus (DM) increases the risk of tuberculosis (TB), and a study in India compared treatment outcomes between TB patients with and without DM over 18 months.
  • Among 799 participants, those with DM had a similar overall rate of unfavorable treatment outcomes (20% for TB-DM vs 21% for TB-only), but had higher mortality rates.
  • The study highlighted that early mortality was significantly higher for TB patients with DM, suggesting a need for interventions to improve outcomes for this group.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently changed its guidance for tuberculosis (TB) preventive treatment (TPT) recommending TPT for all pulmonary TB (PTB) exposed household contacts (HHC) to prevent incident TB disease (iTBD), regardless of TB infection (TBI) status. However, this recommendation was conditional as the strength of evidence was not strong. We assessed risk factors for iTBD in recently-exposed adult and pediatric Indian HHC, to determine which HHC subgroups might benefit most from TPT.

Various bacteria from the Bacillus species have been used as pesticides against mosquito larvae for more than a decade. The prolonged use of these bacterial species by little alteration within their genome, using various permutations and combinations of mosquito-cidal toxins, has proven unsuccessful in controlling the mosquito population. In our current study we report Enterococcus sp.

Actin, an ATPase superfamily protein, regulates some vital biological functions like cell locomotion, cytokinesis, synaptic plasticity and cell signaling in higher eukaryotes, and is dependent on the dynamics of actin polymerization process. Impaired regulation of actin polymerization has been implicated in the formation and deposition of rod-like paracrystalline structures called as Hirano bodies in neuronal cells of patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease, Guam amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and parkinsonism-dementia complex. Aggregation of actin forming amorphous deposition in the brain cells is also associated with chronic alcoholism and aging of the neurons.
