The incidence of superficial infections in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is increasing in Yaounde. To determine the prevalence of superficial mycoses in HIV-positive subjects, a study was carried out in different hospital settings in Yaounde over a period of 18 months. Clinical observations were followed by the culture of samples on Sabouraud's glucose agar.

The authors report the results of a six-month evaluation of otomycoses in the ENT Department of CHU and the Central Hospital of Yaoundé. We examined 2 592 patients of both sexes presenting with ear affections. The prevalence of Otomycoses is 6,09%.

In this preliminary study, we discuss 9 cases of Candidosis diagnosed during a 6 month period in 32 AIDS patients hospitalized in three health Centers in Yaoundé. Most of the patients presented with buccal candidosis and/or dysphagia. Of the 18 strains grown, 17 (94%) are Candida albicans.
