The appearance of an extrudate formulation was monitored during hot-melt extrusion (HME) continuous manufacturing over 3 days. Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of humeral position of the Affinis Short implant in stemless anatomic total shoulder arthroplasties (STSAs) on clinical and radiologic results and mid- to long-term survival in the treatment of primary osteoarthritis (OA) of the shoulder.

Methods: Eighty patients treated with a stemless shoulder arthroplasty for OA of the shoulder were evaluated with a mean follow-up of 92 ± 14 months (range 69-116 months) by the Constant Score (CS), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire (DASH), and active range of motion (ROM). Radiographic assessment for bone adaptations and humeral implant position was performed by plain radiographs.

Objective: Loose bodies are free-floating tissues of cartilage and bone that can cause pain, swelling, the inability to straighten the knee, or intermittent locking of the knee. Loose bodies can arise from degenerative joint disease, flake fractures, osteochondritis dissecans, or chondromatosis. We hypothesized that loose bodies can be classified in stages with tissue characteristics similar to endochondral ossification.

iOCT-guided simulated subretinal injections: a comparison between manual and robot-assisted techniques in an ex-vivo porcine model.

The purpose of this study is to compare robot-assisted and manual subretinal injections in terms of successful subretinal blistering, reflux incidences and damage of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). Subretinal injection was simulated on 84 ex-vivo porcine eyes with half of the interventions being carried out manually and the other half by controlling a custom-built robot in a master-slave fashion. After pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), the retinal target spot was determined under a LUMERA 700 microscope with microscope-integrated intraoperative optical coherence tomography (iOCT) RESCAN 700 (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany).

The direct tactile assessment of surface textures during palpation is an essential component of open surgery that is impeded in minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery. When indirectly palpating with a surgical instrument, the structural vibrations from this interaction contain tactile information that can be extracted and analysed. The wear particles generated at the tribological bearings are thought to induce an inflammatory tissue response, leading to bone loss and the subsequent loosening of the implant. Different wear particles have been shown to activate the inflammasome, thereby contributing to an inflammatory milieu in the direct vicinity of the implant.
