Aims: The impact of social determinants of health (SDOH) on mental health is increasingly realized. A comprehensive study examining the associations of SDOH with mental health disorders has yet to be accomplished. This study evaluated the associations between five domains of SDOH and the SDOH summary score and mental health disorders in the United States.

Food insecurity and oral health in older adults.

Introduction: Household food insecurity, defined as inconsistent access to sufficient food in a household, affects 1 in 15 individuals over the age of 60 years in the US. In these individuals it is associated with numerous chronic conditions, medication underuse leading to poorly controlled conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, and poor oral health. However, the relationship between food insecurity and oral health is understudied.

Background: Physical activity is associated with lower risk of dementia and cognitive impairment, but existing randomized controlled trials have shown conflicting results. As cognitive decline occurs decades before the onset of dementia, physical activity interventions initiated in late life may have missed the potential window for prevention. An ideal trial of physical activity initiated from midlife and lasts till incident dementia and cognitive impairment in late life is not feasible.

Methods: We conducted a prospective, population-based study on a cohort of persons ( = 78,534) previously diagnosed with AD and died between 2014-2019.

Methods: We assessed cost-effectiveness between excision guided by Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS-E) and traditional wide local excision (WLE). We examined billing data from patients with vulvar Paget's disease who underwent MMS-E (cases, n = 24, 2018-2022) or WLE (controls, n = 64, 1990-2020).

Acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) is a subtype of melanoma that primarily affects ethnic minorities and is associated with poor outcomes. Racial inequalities in melanoma survival, particularly between Blacks and Whites, have been well documented in the literature. There are limited data on the role of surgical approach to ALM and its contribution to the existing disparities in ALM survival.

Validation of a real-time PCR panel for detection and quantification of nine pathogens commonly associated with canine infectious respiratory disease.

Canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD) is a complicated respiratory syndrome in dogs [1], [2], [3]. A panel PCR was developed [4] to detect nine pathogens commonly associated with CIRD: canine adenovirus type 2, canine herpesvirus 1, canine parainfluenza virus, canine distemper virus, canine influenza virus and canine respiratory coronavirus [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13], [14], [15], [16]. To evaluate diagnostic performance of the assay, 740 nasal swab and lung tissue samples were collected and tested with the new assay, and compared to an older version of the assay detecting the same pathogens except that it does not differentiate the two species.

Background: Treatment of adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) primary involves methylphenidate (MPH).
