Plastics pollution is ubiquitous. Microplastics (<5 mm in diameter) and mesoplastics (5-20 mm in diameter) are emerging as the most common plastic particulates found in the marine environment. In this study, the occurrence of microplastics and mesoplastics in the gastrointestinal tract (GI) of some commercially important fish collected from Chennai and Nagapattinam of Tamil Nadu, Southeast coast of Bay of Bengal was assessed.

Massive peptide sharing between the Zika virus polyprotein and host tissue proteins could elicit significant host-pathogen interactions and cross-reactions leading to autoimmune diseases. This study found similarities in the Zika V proteins and human nerve tissue proteins. 63 human nerve proteins were screened for similarities with the Zika V of which Neuromodulin, Nestin, Galanin, Bombesin, Calcium-binding protein were found to have similarities to the Zika V poly protein C at different sequence regions.

Myroides sp. are gram negative aerobes and known for its oppurtunistic pathogenicity in humans. In the present study, Myroides odoratimimus isolated from the gut of Mugil cephalus showed potential infectivity to the experimental grey mullet and acted as an ultimate pathogen with significant symptoms.
