Introduction/objectives: The cost of medical services is a major barrier to healthcare accessibility for underserved populations in the United States. Community charity medical clinics help address this disparity by providing free or reduced-cost care for the medically underinsured; however, their economic and public health contributions are unknown. The objective of this study was to evaluate the scope of services and monetary impact of 4 community charity medical clinics in North Texas, with one of the largest medically underinsured populations in the United States.

Background: Free Open-Access Medical education (FOAM) use among residents continues to rise. However, it often lacks quality assurance processes and residents receive little guidance on quality assessment. The Academic Life in Emergency Medicine Approved Instructional Resources tool (AAT) was created for FOAM appraisal by and for expert educators and has demonstrated validity in this context.

Evaluating hydrophobic galactonoamidines as transition state analogs for enzymatic β-galactoside hydrolysis.

A spectroscopic examination of six galactonoamidines with inhibition constants and efficacy in the low nanomolar concentration range (K = 6-11 nM, IC = 12-36 nM) suggested only two of them as putative transition state analogs for the hydrolysis of β-galactosides by β-galactosidase (A. oryzae). A rationale for the experimental results was elaborated using docking and molecular dynamics studies.

Small non-functioning pancreatic NETs (pNETs) ≤2 cm can pose a management dilemma in terms of surveillance or resection. There is evidence to suggest that a surveillance approach can be considered since there are no significant radiological changes observed in lesions during long-term follow-up. However, other studies have suggested loco-regional spread can be present in ≤2 cm pNETs.
