Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a common skin cancer that can be effectively treated with photodynamic therapy (PDT), which has low side effects and good response rates.
In a study analyzing 234 superficial BCC cases treated with PDT, 73% achieved "high clearance" at a six-month follow-up, but 16% of those cleared lesions recurred within 24 months.
The study found that larger and head/neck BCCs had a greater likelihood of partial responses and recurrences, indicating the need for additional treatments in some cases.
