Application of the transgender male voice questionnaire in a Brazilian population sample.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to adapt and apply the Portuguese version of the Transgender Man Voice Questionnaire in a sample of Brazilian transgender men and to investigate the relationship between voice satisfaction and hormone therapy duration. In addition, we suggest reducing and reformulating the questionnaire for screening.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 31 transgender men aged 18-50 years undergoing hormone therapy who answered a questionnaire adapted from the Transgender Woman Voice Questionnaire, validated in Portuguese.

Below-the-Ankle Antegrade Teleferic Technique: New Approach for Below-the-Ankle Revascularization in Challenging Cases of Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia.

Purpose: To describe a novel bailout technique to approach below-the-ankle (BTA) chronic total occlusions or plantar-arch severe disease where the balloon/catheter is unable to follow the crossing guidewire and no other described recanalization approach is feasible.

Technique: When facing a complex BTA revascularization, if the guidewire crosses but the balloon cannot progress due to a lack of pushability, an antegrade puncture of the infrapopliteal vessel where the tip of the guidewire lays is performed. The guidewire is then carefully navigated through this distal BTA vessel into the needle to achieve its rendezvous and externalization.

Medical care for transgender individuals at a hospital in southern Brazil: why do they drop out from our service?

Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate dropout rates and discern potential factors contributing to the discontinuation of treatment provided to transgender individuals by the Transdisciplinary Gender Identity Program at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (PROTIG).

Methodology: This study employs a descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective design to analyze socio-demographic and clinical data obtained from medical records of patients treated at PROTIG between 2000 and 2018. A structured form, devised by PROTIG's professional team, was utilized to extract and evaluate several variables including: age, gender, education level, diagnosis of F64 according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10: Version: 2010), clinical comorbidities (coded by ICD-10), laboratory diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections, distance between patients' residence and the hospital, and year of entry into PROTIG.

The Need for a Prevention Program for Child Sexual Abuse in Brazil: A Report of Shortfall Care to Pedophilia and its Critical Consequences.

From a case report of a person with pedophilic disorder, this paper focuses on the issue of pedophilia, child sexual abuse, and the need for specific prevention and treatment strategies in Brazil. It seems inevitable to increase awareness for this topic within the mental health care system to protect children and reduce the risk for sexual offense in individuals at-risk. This is a case report of an individual, known by medical-psychiatric and forensic facilities for a past history of patricide, who revealed his pedophilic fantasies and behavior belatedly.

Trajectories of Gender Identity and Depressive Symptoms in Youths.

Importance: Concerns about the mental health of youths going through gender identity transitions have received increased attention. There is a need for empirical evidence to understand how transitions in self-reported gender identity are associated with mental health.

Objective: To examine whether and how often youths changed self-reported gender identities in a longitudinal sample of sexual and gender minority (SGM) youths, and whether trajectories of gender identity were associated with depressive symptoms.

Tips and Tricks for Simple and Complex Below-the-Ankle Punctures.

When the standard endovascular crossing maneuvers have failed during CLTI recanalization procedures and the distal below-the-knee or proximal below-the-ankle retrograde access is not possible due to chronic occlusion of the vessels, mastering the more distal and complex retrograde BTA punctures may be advantageous.There are scanty reports regarding the retrograde puncture of the mid and forefoot vessels. The aim of this article is to review different tips and tricks related to these techniques to help operators to apply them in specific scenarios to eventually improve procedural success rate.

Behavior of deteriogenic fungi in aviation fuels (fossil and biofuel) during simulated storage.

Biofuels are expected to play a major role in reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector globally. Farnesane ("2,6,10-trimethyldodecane") is a biofuel derived from the synthesized iso-paraffin route wich can be blended with jet fuel; however, the microbial behavior in farnesane/jet fuel blends remains unknown. The chemical and biological stability of blends should be investigated to ensure they meet the quality requirements for aviation fuels.

A speech therapy for transgender women: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: We systematically reviewed the literature and performed a meta-analysis on the effects of speech therapy and phonosurgery, for transgender women, in relation to the fundamental frequency gain of the voice, regarding the type of vocal sample collected, and we compared the effectiveness of the treatments. In addition, the study design, year, country, types of techniques used, total therapy time, and vocal assessment protocols were analyzed.

Methods: We searched the PubMed, Lilacs, and SciELO databases for observational studies and clinical trials, published in English, Portuguese, or Spanish, between January 2010 and January 2023.

New antioxidant therapy for hard-to-heal neuroischaemic diabetic foot ulcers with deep exposure.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of a new antioxidant therapy for the treatment of complex neuroischaemic diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs).

Method: A prospective case series study has been conducted in patients with complex neuroischaemic DFUs after transmetatarsal amputation. DFUs were locally treated with an antioxidant dressing twice a week for the first two weeks, and then once a week until the end of the study or complete wound closure.

Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) of ICD-11 in youths with childhood maltreatment: Associations with age of exposure and clinical outcomes.

Background: Exposure to childhood maltreatment (CM) increases the risk of psychiatric morbidity in youths. The new Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) diagnosis captures the heterogeneity and complexity of clinical outcomes observed in youths exposed to CM. Sexual Function and Quality of Life in Brazilian Transgender Women Following Gender-Affirming Surgery: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Retrograde Balloon-Assisted Approach to Prevent Distal Embolization During Complex Recanalization Procedures.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to describe a bailout technical strategy to prevent below-the-knee (BTK) distal embolization during procedures with increased inherent risk using universally-available "off-the-shelf" devices.

Technique: A conventional retrograde access is obtained of the BTK target vessel where embolization protection is sought. Before starting any potential proximal maneuver with an associated significant risk of distal embolization (eg, atherectomy and mechanical thrombectomy), a low-profile balloon is inserted and inflated through the distal retrograde access, so that any debris resulting from the recanalization procedure is blocked by the stagnant column of blood generated by the inflated balloon.

Methods: Google Forms inventory was sent via WhatsApp, including qualitative and quantitative questions evaluating three life dimensions denominated as Sociodemographic, Economic, and COVID-19 pandemic. It was applied in two periods: At the beginning of the pandemic (June-2020) (P1) and one year later (June-2021) (P2).

Depression, Self-Esteem, and Resilience and its Relationship with Psychological Features of Sexuality among Transgender Men and Women from Brazil.

This cross-sectional study investigated whether depression, self-esteem, and resilience (mental health indicators) are associated with some psychological features of sexuality (sexual fear, sexual anxiety, sexual dissatisfaction, and sexual body image worries) in a sample of 462 transgender men and women from Brazil. Pearson's correlations were performed between all continuous variables in the study. Those that were significantly associated with the psychological features of sexuality in previous analyses were tested as independent variables in multiple linear regression models.
