Preliminary results of treatment with pegylated interferon alpha 2A for chronic hepatitis C virus in kidney transplant candidates on hemodialysis.

Introduction: At present, there is little published information on the outcome of treatment with pegylated interferon (Peg-IF alpha 2a) in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected hemodialysis patients awaiting renal transplantation. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy and tolerance of Peg-IF alpha 2a in this population.

Patients And Methods: Twelve noncirrhotic HCV-infected patients (10 men, 50 +/- 8 years of age, genotype 1b 84%), were prescribed Peg-IF alpha 2a, at 135 microg/wk for 48 weeks.

[Common variable immunodeficiency in children].

Unlabelled: Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is one of the more frequent primary immunodeficiencies (PID), after IgA deficiency, and affects a heterogeneous group of patients of various ages and with autosomal recessive inheritance. Our objective is to present the group of children diagnosed with CVID treated in our Hospital Infantil Vall d'Hebron and comment on the diagnostic problems that can arise. Sixteen boys and girls were diagnosed between the ages of 7 months and 15 years.

Anetoderma associated with antiphospholipid antibodies: case report and review of the literature.

The association of primary anetoderma (PA) with antiphospholipid antibodies (APAs; with or without criteria of primary antiphospholipid syndrome) has been observed repeatedly and a possible pathogenic significance of this asssociation has been hypothesized. We report the case of a 21-year-old-woman who developed anetodermic lesions on her upper trunk and arms. The presence of APAs was demonstrated, but no diagnostic criteria of systemic lupus erythematosus were present.

Fine-needle aspiration cytology of columnar-cell carcinoma of the thyroid: report of two cases with cytohistologic correlation.

The columnar-cell variant of papillary carcinoma is a rare tumor of the thyroid, associated with aggressive behavior, early visceral metastasis, and a rapidly fatal course. In this report we present the fine-needle aspiration cytologic findings of two examples of this variant of papillary carcinoma with cytohistologic correlation. In the smears, clusters, monolayered sheets, and scattered papillary fronds of tumor cells were present.

Massive crystal-storing histiocytosis associated with low-grade malignant B-cell lymphoma of MALT-type of the parotid gland.

Massive crystal deposition is unusual in lymphoproliferative disorders. In this report, a mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) low-grade B-cell lymphoma of the parotid gland containing large numbers of crystal-storing histiocytes is described. The patient, an 81-yr-old female, presented with a history of long-standing left parotid gland enlargement.

[Stevens-Johnson syndrome after lamotrigine treatment].

We report a 18 years old female with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome under treatment with sodium valproate, carbamazepine and clonazepam. When seizures increased we stopped carbamazepine and introduced lamotrigine slowly. One month later the girl developed haemorrhagic erosions in mucoses and limbs with deterioration of her general state.
