Objective: to identify the prevalence and factors associated with falls in the elderly population living in rural areas.

Method: this is a cross-sectional study, carried out in 2014, with 820 older adults recorded in the Family Health Strategy (Estratégia Saúde da Família). The association between the reporting of falls in 12 months and their associated factors was verified by the Chi-square and Fischer's exact tests and by multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Background: To date, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and S100B remain the most useful biomarkers for follow-up of melanoma patients. In recent years, indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO), an immunosuppressive enzyme, has been proposed as a new potential tumour biomarker for melanoma. However, further studies are needed to confirm the usefulness of IDO expression as an independent prognostic factor.

Background: Fine needle aspiration (FNA) of kidney lesions under image control is widespread and well documented. This technique is essential in preoperative differential diagnosis of solid and cystic benign or malignant lesions of the kidney. Kidney metastases are not frequent and are usually described in terminally ill patients, by which time the illness is extended, or in autopsy findings.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how neoadjuvant therapy affects hormone receptor status (estrogen and progesterone receptors) and c-erbB2 expression in breast cancer patients.
  • A total of 53 patients were analyzed, comparing the expression levels of these markers in both biopsy samples and surgical specimens, particularly in those who underwent preoperative treatment.
  • Significant differences were observed in hormone receptor expression between patients who received neoadjuvant therapy and those who did not, with minor changes in receptor status post-treatment, though these changes were not statistically significant.

Article Synopsis
  • Typical carcinoid tumors are uncommon and difficult to diagnose through sputum cytology, with limited documented cases.
  • A 71-year-old nonsmoker experienced a persistent cough and after two negative sputum tests, a third sample revealed tumor fragments due to partial expulsion of an endobronchial mass.
  • The rarity of diagnosing typical carcinoid tumors through sputum is highlighted, as they are usually covered by bronchial mucosa, with this case being a rare exception previously reported only once.

Primary cerebral lymphoma (Primary CNS Lymphoma, PCNSL) is an aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma that originates in the central nervous system without evidence of lymphoma in any other localization at the time of diagnosis. Primary cerebral lymphomas are less well-known and are characterized than their homologues the systemic lymphomas, as they are an entity whose frequency was scarce until a few decades ago. However, the great rise in incidence that this pathology has undergone over the last three decades, and which is still unexplained, makes more studies necessary to better understand the etiopathology of this entity.

Background: The aim of this study is to describe the result obtained through two techniques of isolation of lymphatic lymph nodes in surgical pieces of anterior resection due to adenocarcinoma of the rectum.

Material And Methods: We carried out a search in a series of 30 consecutive cases of patients operated on for adenocarcinoma of the rectum for lymph nodes first in a manual conventional way and second after 24 hours in a degreasing solution at room temperature.

Results: In the first search 335 lymph nodes were lymph nodes isolated, with an average that oscillated between 6.
