Toxoplasmosis, caused by the cosmopolitan protozoan , has particular implications during pregnancy due to the possible transmission of infection to the fetus. Very few studies have assessed seroprevalence and the risk factors for toxoplasmosis in healthy pregnant women. The aim of this study was to examine the seroprevalence of infection in healthy pregnant women and to identify the associated risk factors for toxoplasmosis.

Vaccine uptake depends on the individual attitude toward vaccination. The aim was to assess the changes in attitudes regarding COVID-19 vaccine protection during the pandemic and to determine the vaccination uptake concerning these attitudes.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, NITAGs faced many challenges in making evidence-based recommendations for COVID-19 vaccines due to the rapidly evolving situation with new vaccine products available in a short time period and limited data on vaccine effectiveness. The authors reviewed the process used by Serbia's NITAG, which is called the Serbian Expert Committee on Immunization, to develop COVID-19 vaccine recommendations during the pandemic.

The aim of the study was to identify risk factors associated with fecal VRE colonization among high-risk inpatients in university hospitals in Serbia.

Point prevalence surveys (PPS), guided by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control framework, are one of the primary methods by which countries in the European Union conduct surveillance of HAIs. Serbia, though not in the EU, implemented this approach in its national PPS.

This study aimed to estimate COVID-19 seroprevalence and evaluate the risk perception of COVID-19 among HCWs in three different hospitals in Belgrade, Serbia: non-COVID hospital, Emergency Center (EC), and dedicated COVID hospital.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in three hospitals during the second wave of the outbreak in Serbia, from June to early October.
Toxoplasmosis is a globally distributed parasitic zoonosis, affecting approximately one third of the human population. Epidemiological studies on toxoplasmosis conducted in Serbia so far have been focused on women of childbearing age, without a clear insight into the prevalence in the general population. We conducted a cross-sectional study in a representative sample of the healthy adult population consisting of 1095 blood donors of both genders to establish the prevalence and risk factors for Toxoplasma gondii infection.

Methods: In this prospective randomized study, the study population consisted of all patients who underwent the first surgical incisional hernias repair during the 1-year study period. Patients who met the criteria for inclusion in the study were randomized into two groups: the first group consisted of patients operated by an open Rives sublay technique, and the second group included patients operated by a segregation component technique.
We aimed to assess awareness, knowledge, and attitudes of healthy pregnant women towards human papillomavirus (HPV), to estimate factors associated with a positive attitude towards HPV immunization and to assess the uptake of the vaccine among their children. A cross-sectional study was conducted at the University Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Belgrade, Serbia among pregnant women attending their regular gynecological check-ups at the 12th gestational week. Knowledge about HPV and HPV vaccine was assessed using a specifically designed 12-item and 5-item questionnaires.

The aim of this study was to provide baseline data on VRE intestinal carriage among high-risk patients in Serbian university hospitals, to determine the phenotypic/genotypic profiles of the isolated VRE, to obtain knowledge of local resistance patterns and bridge the gaps in current VRE surveillance.

A cross-sectional study was conducted. Medical history, anthropometric measurements, pubertal status, blood chemistry (glucose and insulin levels, lipid profile, aminotransferases, and hemoglobin A1c [HbA1c]), and liver ultrasound were obtained in all patients.

Here, we aimed to estimate the prevalence of HAI and AMU in patients who had recently undergone a surgery and to compare risk profile, HAI rates, and AMU among surgical patients and non-surgical patients.
Methods: A national PPS was performed in 65 Serbian acute-care hospitals, in November 2017.
The data about the incidence and risk factors for surgical site infections (SSIs) following total joint arthroplasty (TJA) in middle-income countries are still scant. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence and risk factors associated with 30-day SSIs following total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The study was conducted at the Clinic for Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, Clinical Center of Serbia (CCS) in Belgrade, from May 2016 to April 2018.

We aimed to assess independent risk factors for inadequate initial antimicrobial treatment (IAT) in critically ill patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) treated in intensive care units (ICU) and to determine whether IAT is associated with adverse outcomes in patients with VAP. A prospective cohort study was performed and included 152 patients with VAP treated in an ICU for more than 48 hours. The main outcomes of interest were all-cause ICU mortality and VAP-related mortality.

We aimed to evaluate the association between 8 different SNVs within tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFA), lymphotoxin alpha (LTA) and Toll-like receptor (TLR2 and TLR4) genes and the risk of posttraumatic sepsis.
Methods: Nested case-control study was conducted in the emergency department of the Clinical Centre of Serbia including 228 traumatized patients (44 with sepsis and 184 without sepsis).
Background: It is unclear whether the heart is affected in pediatric patients with milder forms of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Therefore, we aimed to determine the presence of any cardiac abnormalities in these patients.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of children and adolescents with SMA types 2 and 3 between July 2018 and July 2019.
Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to determine the outcome for patients who sustain a second hip fracture compared with those who sustain a first fracture, and to define the optimal measure to evaluate functional outcome after second hip fracture.
Methods: 343 patients with acute hip fractures who presented during a 12 month period were included in the study. Patients with a first (318 patients, 78.
Purpose: Understanding target groups' awareness and knowledge regarding the human papillomavirus (HPV) and the HPV vaccine is essential for planning the screening and vaccination programs and attaining adequate vaccination coverage. The aim of this study was to estimate awareness and knowledge about HPV infection and the HPV vaccine and to assess factors associated with HPV awareness, HPV vaccine awareness and high HPV-related knowledge among women undergoing cervical cancer screening in Serbia.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between January and June 2013 at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic "Narodni Front" in Belgrade, Serbia.
Decreased muscle strength is not only a risk factor for hip fracture in older patients, but plays a role in recovery of physical function. Our aim was to assess the role of grip strength measured early after hip fracture, and classified according to the EWGSOP2 criteria in predicting short- and long-term functional recovery. One hundred ninety-one patients with acute hip fracture consecutively admitted to an orthopaedic hospital have been selected.

We investigated the impact of a single episode of intraoperative hyper/hypotension, blood pressure (BP) fluctuation (ΔMAP), and pulse pressure (PP) on hyper/hypoactive PD in elderly patients undergoing surgery for hip fracture. We also assessed the effect of PD on clinical outcomes.
