Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an essential endogenous gasotransmitter that can regulate a wide range of physiological processes. However, overproduction of HS is toxic to humans and causes liver injury, cardiovascular diseases, central nervous system-related disease, diabetes, even cancer. Hence, designing efficient imaging probes for real-time monitoring of the alterations in endogenous HS is a viable tactic for accurate diagnosis of these diseases.

Rice blast, caused by the fungal pathogen , is one of the most devastating diseases affecting rice production worldwide, resulting in significant yield losses and threatening global food security. The severity of rice blast, particularly in susceptible regions, underscores the urgent need for available effective resistance strategies. In this study, six sets of gene-specific molecular markers for the locus associated with rice blast resistance were developed based on publicly available gene sequences.

Aim: Extracellular communication via the transfer of vesicles and nanoparticles is now recognized to play an important role in tumor microenvironment interactions. Cancer cells upregulate and secrete abundant levels of and that can alter gene expression in donor and recipient cells. In this study, we sought to identify targets of and and conclusively demonstrate that microRNAs (miRNAs) can be functionally transferred from donor to recipient cells.

Background: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating chronic mental disorder that leads to reduced quality of life and increased economic burden. Observational studies have found an association between human blood metabolites and PTSD. Nonetheless, these studies have limitations and are subject to confounding factors as well as reverse causation.

Ultramicrotomy is a well-established technique that has been applied in biology and medical research to produce thin sections or a blockface of an embedded sample for microscopy. Recently, this technique has also been applied in materials science or micro- and nanotechnology as a sample preparation method for subsequent characterization. In this work, an application of ultramicrotomy for the cross-section preparation of an inkjet-printed multilayer structure is demonstrated.

Spatial proteomics can visualize and quantify protein expression profiles within tissues at single-cell resolution. Although spatial proteomics can only detect a limited number of proteins compared to spatial transcriptomics, it provides comprehensive spatial information with single-cell resolution. By studying the spatial distribution of cells, we can clearly obtain the spatial context within tissues at multiple scales.

Bacterial assemblages associated with sea urchin are critical to their physiology and ecology within marine ecosystems. In this study, we characterized the bacterial communities in wild sea urchin captured in Daya Bay, South China Sea. A total of 363 amplicon sequence variants belonging to nine phyla and 141 genera were classified from intestine, body surface, and surrounding seawater samples.

Cancer metastasis, the process by which tumour cells migrate and colonize distant organs from a primary site, is responsible for the majority of cancer-related deaths. Understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying this complex process is essential for developing effective metastasis prevention and therapy strategies. To this end, we systematically analysed 1786 bulk tissue samples from 13 cancer types, 988 463 single cells from 17 cancer types, and 40 252 spots from 45 spatial slides across 10 cancer types.

Background And Objective: Numerous factors, including demographic characteristics, have been implicated in modulating individual sensitivity to propofol; however, substantial inter-individual differences persist even after accounting for these factors. This study thus aimed to explore whether pre-anesthesia brain functional network metrics correlate with an individual's sensitivity to propofol.

Methods: A total of 54 subjects, including 30 patients and 24 healthy volunteers, were enrolled.

Due to the anatomic complexity of the head and neck and variable proximity between laboratory and operating room (OR), effective communication during frozen section analysis (FSA) between surgeons and pathologists is challenging. This proof-of-concept study investigates an augmented reality (AR) protocol that allows pathologists to virtually join the OR from the laboratory. Head and neck cancer specimens were scanned ex vivo using a 3-dimensional scanner and uploaded into an AR platform.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the effects of plant-derived nanovesicles (PnNVs) on squamous cell carcinoma, exploring how the size of plant tubers influences the properties and efficacy of these nanovesicles in inhibiting cancer cell growth and migration.
  • - Researchers isolated PnNVs from small, medium, and large tubers, finding that medium-sized PnNVs (m_PnNVs) were most effective in inhibiting cancer, despite having lower cellular uptake efficiency compared to smaller ones (s_PnNVs).
  • - The investigation revealed that the composition of PnNVs varied with tuber size, with m_PnNVs showing a higher concentration of antitumor metabolites, highlighting the significance of tub

Recent studies have predominantly spotlighted bacterial diversity within coral microbiomes, leaving coral-associated fungi in the shadows of scientific inquiry. This study endeavors to fill this knowledge gap by delving into the biodiversity, distribution and functional differences of fungi associated with soft corals and , gorgonian coral and stony coral from the South China Sea. Leveraging high-throughput sequencing of fungal internal transcribed spacer-1 (ITS1) region of the rRNA gene, a total of 431 fungal amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) were identified in this study, which indicated that a large number of fungal communities were harbored in the South China Sea corals.

Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) enzyme plays a crucial role in a variety of cellular processes related to cancer, and inhibition of HDAC6 is emerging as an effective strategy for cancer treatment. Although several hydroxamate-based HDAC6 inhibitors showed promising anticancer activities, the intrinsic defects such as poor selectivity, stability, and pharmacokinetics limited their application. In this study, a potent selenocyanide-bearing HDAC6 inhibitor, 5-phenylcarbamoylpentyl selenocyanide (SelSA), was evaluated for its antihepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) activity and further explored for its antitumor mechanisms.

Extracellular communication via the transfer of vesicles and nanoparticles is now recognized to play an important role in tumor microenvironment interactions. Cancer cells upregulate and secrete abundant levels of and that can alter gene expression by both cell- and non-cell-autonomous mechanisms. We previously showed that these miRNAs activate Wnt signaling in colorectal cancer (CRC) through noncanonical pairing with 5 negative regulators of Wnt signaling.

Unlabelled: Co-inhibitory receptors (Co-IRs) are essential in controlling the progression of immunopathology in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by limiting T cell activation. The objective of this investigation was to determine the phenotypic expression of Co-IR T cells and to assess the levels of serum soluble PD-1, PDL-2, and TIM3 in Taiwanese RA patients.

Methods: Co-IRs T cells were immunophenotyped employing multicolor flow cytometry, and ELISA was utilized for measuring soluble PD-1, PDL-2, and TIM3.

The metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the cancers with high incidence, poor survival, and limited treatment. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is the first step by which an early tumor converts to an invasive one. Studying the underlying mechanisms of EMT can help the understanding of cancer metastasis and improve the treatment.

Predicting drug-drug interactions (DDIs) has become a major concern in the drug research field because it helps explore the pharmacological function of drugs and enables the development of new therapeutic drugs. Existing prediction methods simply integrate multiple drug attributes or perform tasks on a biomedical knowledge graph (KG). Though effective, few methods can fully utilize multi-source drug data information.

Callus formation is important for numerous biological processes in plants. Previously, we revealed that the PdeWRKY75-PdeRBOHB module positively regulates hydrogen peroxide (H O ) accumulation, thereby affecting callus formation in poplar. In this study, we identified and confirmed a transcription factor, PdeERF114, that interacts with PdeWRKY75 both in vitro and in vivo.
