Differences in Breast Cancer Subtypes among Racial/Ethnic Groups.

Background: Differences in the incidence of breast cancer subtypes among racial/ethnic groups have been evaluated as a contributing factor in disparities seen in breast cancer prognosis. We evaluated new breast cancer cases in Hawai'i to determine if there were subtype differences according to race/ethnicity that may contribute to known disparities.

Methods: We reviewed 4591 cases of women diagnosed with breast cancer from two large tumor registries between 2015 and 2022.

Psoriasiform Lupus Vulgaris: A Diagnostic Challenge.

Cutaneous tuberculosis is a rare and often overlooked manifestation of tuberculosis, frequently leading to delays from onset to diagnosis. This case report describes the presentation of a 65-year-old male with an asymptomatic solitary plaque with silvery scales persisting for over five years, mimicking solitary plaque psoriasis. Despite intermittent treatment with a potent steroid and a combination of calcipotriol, the patient had only modest alleviation.

Nail Discoloration Following the Chronic Use of Skin-Depigmenting Creams.

Skin-depigmenting creams are on the rise, driven by societal pressures that equate fair skin with beauty, success, and happiness. This trend has led to many unregulated products being released on the market, causing various adverse effects on users. This case report examines five patients with nail hyperpigmentation following the use of skin-depigmenting creams containing hydroquinone (HQ).

Validation and Cultural Adaptation of the Sinhala Translation of the Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI).

Introduction: Quality of life (QoL) is impaired in patients with acne vulgaris. The Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) that assesses QoL of acne patients was initially developed in English and is being currently used widely after being validated in different languages. This study was conducted to validate the CADI in Sinhala, a language used by the majority of Sri Lanka.

Introduction: The most common form of endometrial cancer is Type 1 endometrioid adenocarcinoma. Depth of myometrial invasion is the most important prognostic factor correlating with overall patient survival. The objective was to investigate how accurate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is in predicting the depth of myometrial invasion in preoperative assessment, and the influence of leiomyoma and/or adenomyosis, or microcystic, elongated and fragmented (MELF) pattern of invasion on MRI diagnostic performance.

Introduction: Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare skin sarcoma with a slow growth rate and less chance of metastasizing but it is associated with higher morbidity due to its aggressive nature of local infiltration and its recurrence nature.

Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering Cross Section at High Bjorken x_{B}.

We report high-precision measurements of the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) cross section at high values of the Bjorken variable x_{B}. DVCS is sensitive to the generalized parton distributions of the nucleon, which provide a three-dimensional description of its internal constituents. Using the exact analytic expression of the DVCS cross section for all possible polarization states of the initial and final electron and nucleon, and final state photon, we present the first experimental extraction of all four helicity-conserving Compton form factors (CFFs) of the nucleon as a function of x_{B}, while systematically including helicity flip amplitudes.

However, owner-misperception of canine body condition has shown to persist even after being guided by a BCS chart. We compared the BCS assessments performed by the owners of 95 large-sized, purebred dogs without and with the guidance of a 5-point BCS chart.

Photosensitizer Encryption with Aggregation Enhanced Singlet Oxygen Production.

Chromophores that generate singlet oxygen (O) in water are essential to developing noninvasive disease treatments using photodynamic therapy (PDT). A facile approach for formation of stable colloidal nanoparticles of O photosensitizers, which exhibit aggregation enhanced O generation in water toward applications as PDT agents, is reported. Chromophore encryption within a fuchsonarene macrocyclic scaffold insulates the photosensitizer from aggregation induced deactivation pathways, enabling a higher chromophore density than typical O generating nanoparticles.

Form Factors and Two-Photon Exchange in High-Energy Elastic Electron-Proton Scattering.

We present new precision measurements of the elastic electron-proton scattering cross section for momentum transfer (Q^{2}) up to 15.75  (GeV/c)^{2}. Combined with existing data, these provide an improved extraction of the proton magnetic form factor at high Q^{2} and double the range over which a longitudinal or transverse separation of the cross section can be performed.

Comparative Study on Depigmenting Agents in Skin of Color.

Objective: Skin lightening agents are popular in southern Asia, but there is dearth of evidence on their effectiveness on Fitzpatrick IV/V skin types. This study was designed to assess the depigmenting efficacy of commercially available and specifically formulated ointments using the Mexameter (MX 18).

Methods: This single center prospective study was performed to test five commercially available preparations (Eldopaque, Aziderm, Garnier Dark Spot Corrector, Ban a Tan Cream and Neostrata Pigment Lightening Gel) on 28 healthy female volunteers in Phase 1, while five single active ingredients in lipophilic dispersion (hydroquinone 4%, ascorbyl palmitate 1%, resveratrol 1% arbutin 5% and azelaic acid 20%) were tested on a different group of 26 healthy female volunteers in Phase 2.

Anion-enhanced excited state charge separation in a spiro-locked N-heterocycle-fused push-pull zinc porphyrin.

A new type of push-pull charge transfer complex, , a spiro-locked N-heterocycle-fused zinc porphyrin, , is shown to undergo excited state charge separation, which is enhanced by axial F binding to the Zn center. In this push-pull design, the spiro-quinone group acts as a 'lock' promoting charge transfer interactions by constraining mutual coplanarity of the -phenol-substituted electron-rich Zn(ii) porphyrin and an electron deficient N-heterocycle, as revealed by electrochemical and computational studies. Spectroelectrochemical studies have been used to identify the spectra of charge separated states, and charge separation upon photoexcitation of has been unequivocally established by using transient absorption spectroscopic techniques covering wide spatial and temporal regions.

Lack of a reliable disease-specific instrument prevents objective estimation and monitoring of disability in patients with psoriasis and hence we aim to validate assess the psychometric properties of the Sinhala version of PDI.
