Article Synopsis
- Dual-emissive fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) were created using a solvothermal process with citric acid and urea, resulting in two distinct fluorescence emission peaks at 465 nm and 630 nm.
- The CDs can selectively detect mercury (Hg), as they were designed to have a ratiometric fluorescence response, with a linear detection range of 0.5-40 μM and a limit of detection of 37 nM.
- When applied to filter paper, the test changes color from pink purple to blue upon adding Hg, allowing for both qualitative and quantitative detection of Hg concentrations observable by the naked eye at levels up to 50 μM.
