As one of the most critical components in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), commercial polyolefin separators suffer from drawbacks such as poor thermal stability and the inability to inhibit the growth of dendrites, which seriously threaten the safety of LIBs. In this study, we prepared calcium alginate fiber/boron nitride-compliant separators (CA@BN) through paper-making technology and the surface coating method using calcium alginate fiber and boron nitride. The CA@BN had favorable electrolyte wettability, flame retardancy, and thermal dimensional stability of the biomass fiber separator.

Self-adaptive photothermal (PT) and radiative cooling (RC) based on insulation-metal phase transition vanadium dioxide (VO) are among the most promising continuous energy harvesting technologies recently. However, previous work relies on rigid substrates that cannot fit complex or non-planar surfaces. Here, we propose a flexible composite film by bonding a VO thin film and a polyimide (PI) substrate with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), which achieves efficient spectrally self-adaptive broadband absorption/emission and can convert between the daytime PT mode and nighttime RC mode.

Air-water interfaces can enable distinct target scattering mechanisms different from the mechanism under free field conditions. In this study, backscattering experiments are performed by lowering an acrylic or polymethylmethacrylate sphere through the air-water interface into the water and insonifying the sphere from below at grazing incidence. Pronounced backscattering enhancements associated with the subsonic Rayleigh wave propagation mechanism are observed before the specular reflection point of the sphere reaches the water.

Metal anodes based on a plating/stripping electrochemistry such as metallic Li, Na, K, Zn, Ca, Mg, Fe, and Al are recognized as promising anode materials for constructing next-generation high-energy-density rechargeable metal batteries owing to their low electrochemical potential, high theoretical specific capacity, superior electronic conductivity, . However, inherent issues such as high chemical reactivity, severe growth of dendrites, huge volume changes, and unstable interface largely impede their practical application. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and their derivatives as emerging multifunctional materials have already well addressed the inherent issues of metal anodes in the past several years due to their abundant metallophilic functional groups, special inner channels, and controllable structures.
