The Yellow River Basin plays an important role in China's economic development and ecological protection. Based on remote sensing ecological index (RSEI) data, climate data, digital elevation data, and night-time remote sensing data, the RSEI index was used as the ecological environment quality evaluation index. such as Theil Sen slope estimation, Hurst index, and Mann-Kendall test were used to evaluate the spatiotemporal changes in the ecological environment quality of the Yellow River Basin from 2001 to 2021.

Examining the impacts of natural and anthropogenic influences on aquatic macrophytes in shallow lakes is crucial for their effective restoration and management. However, there is a lack of direct evidence regarding past species composition or detailed and continuous evidence of recent changes in aquatic macrophyte communities. This study utilized plant macrofossil remains deposited in the sediment, combined with macrophyte surveys from 1983 to 2010, to reconstruct the historical changes in the macrophyte community over approximately 160 years in Lake Weishan, a sub-lake of Lake Nansi located in the lower Yellow River (Huanghe River) Basin, northern China.

The objective of image fusion is to integrate complementary features from source images to better cater to the needs of human and machine vision. However, existing image fusion algorithms predominantly focus on enhancing the visual appeal of the fused image for human perception, often neglecting their impact on subsequent high-level visual tasks, particularly the processing of semantic information. Moreover, these fusion methods that incorporate downstream tasks tend to be overly complex and computationally intensive, which is not conducive to practical applications.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the causal relationship between thyroid dysfunction (hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism) and preeclampsia (PE) during pregnancy using genetic data from two large cohorts.
  • Findings indicate that both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are associated with an increased risk of PE, whereas PE does not seem to affect thyroid function.
  • The research employs a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization approach to ensure the validity of these associations.

Collision-free path planning and task scheduling optimization in multi-region operations of autonomous agricultural robots present a complex coupled problem. In addition to considering task access sequences and collision-free path planning, multiple factors such as task priorities, terrain complexity of farmland, and robot energy consumption must be comprehensively addressed. This study aims to explore a hierarchical decoupling approach to tackle the challenges of multi-region path planning.

Purpose: This is a retrospective comparative study. We aimed to analyze the results of karyotype and chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) of amniotic fluid across different gestational weeks and evaluate the clinical value in prenatal diagnosis, particularly in the late pregnancies.

Methods: Samples from 580 pregnant women of 18-23 weeks of gestation (mid-gestation group) and 196 pregnant women of 24-32 weeks of gestation (late group) were performed both standard G-band karyotype analysis and CMA.

The activation of astrocytes derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) is of great significance in neuroscience research, and it is crucial to obtain both cellular morphology and biomolecular information non-destructively in situ, which is still complicated by the traditional optical microscopy and biochemical methods such as immunofluorescence and western blot. In this study, we combined digital holographic microscopy (DHM) and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) to investigate the activation characteristics of iPSCs-derived astrocytes. It was found that the projected area of activated astrocytes decreased by 67%, while the cell dry mass increased by 23%, and the cells changed from a flat polygonal shape to an elongated star-shaped morphology.

As one of the important organelles in the process of cell differentiation, mitochondria regulate the whole process of differentiation by participating in energy supply and information transmission. Mitochondrial pH value is a key indicator of mitochondrial function. Therefore, real-time monitoring of mitochondrial pH value during cell differentiation is of great significance for understanding cell biochemical processes and exploring differentiation mechanisms.

Monitoring the transition of cell states during induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) differentiation is crucial for clinical medicine and basic research. However, both identification category and prediction accuracy need further improvement. Here, we propose a method combining surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) with convolutional neural networks (CNN) to precisely identify and distinguish cell states during stem cell differentiation.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent research has highlighted the hidden risks of microplastics in water treatment processes, specifically focusing on their interactions with natural organic matter (NOM) during coagulation.
  • The study found that smaller polystyrene nano-particles significantly enhanced the removal of NOM by forming complexes with aluminum-based coagulants, resulting in over a 40% decrease in dissolved organic carbon (DOC) after 7 years.
  • Additionally, the interactions at the micro/nano plastic interfaces, influenced by their structural properties, played a key role in controlling the absorption and release of organic matter and reducing harmful disinfection byproducts (DBPs) by over 50%.

  • Hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a serious condition in newborns leading to disabilities and death, and while hypothermia therapy helps, more effective treatments are needed.
  • Researchers investigated the effects of human placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PD-MSCs) on HIE in rats, comparing them with a saline solution and observing outcomes over time.
  • Results indicated that PD-MSC transplantation improved motor skills and memory in HIE rats, with the best outcomes seen when treatment was given early (at day 7), and demonstrated positive changes in brain health and significantly altered protein levels related to cell survival and inflammation.

Due to its high sensitivity and specificity, Micro-Raman spectroscopy has emerged as a vital technique for molecular recognition and identification. As a weakly scattered signal, ensuring the accurate focus of the sample is essential for acquiring high quality Raman spectral signal and its analysis, especially in some complex microenvironments such as intracellular settings. Traditional autofocus methods are often time consuming or necessitate additional hardware, limiting real-time sample observation and device compatibility.
